I got a call from this number which turned out to be a company working with the mortgage advice service for first contact calls. I mentioned to mortgage advice service that it’s showing up as spam, so they’re checking into it now. They seem legit as we have dealt with them before and they just helped us get a much better mortgage deal that’ll save us quite a bit, so I’d say it’s worth picking up if you get their call.

A woman rang asking about a mortgage on a Kensington property at number 38 and used the name of the old owner linked to this number. We’ve had this number for more than 4 years now, so it’s unlikely anyone’s applying for a mortgage with an outdated number. Sounds like a SCAM to me.

I keep getting 2 or 3 calls everyday, usually I ignore them but it’s getting really annoying. The guy said he worked for a mortgage company and could save me some money on my mortgage. I told him my mortgage was settled years ago, and he said he’d update their records. Then he started asking about my house insurance cost, and when I told him it was none of his business, he just hung up.

This number has been blowing up my phone more than 10 times a day for over a week now. They somehow knew my full name and date of birth which was pretty unnerving. They first asked if I wanted to refinance my mortgage, which freaked me out because I only just bought a new place that I haven’t even moved into yet, but they already had that address, even though my official address is still my old one. When I declined, they switched to offering free products in exchange for reviews. I said no again, and then suddenly they tried selling me pet insurance. I kept telling them to take me off their call list but the calls haven’t stopped and now they’re coming from different numbers with the same area code.

However, as the conversation progressed, I started to feel quite uneasy and pressured to connect with another representative. Thankfully, my bus arrived just in time, and I managed to hang up. Lesson learned-I won't be answering calls like that in the future!

These scammers really ought to be behind bars. The cops can’t do much unless we all start reporting these scams. There was a post on here on 29/07 that explained exactly what steps to take and why it’s important to report. Don’t think the police will act if they aren’t made aware of what's going on.

Without reports, the police won’t grasp how widespread these scams are or what sort of tricks scammers are using. Right now, police data suggests fraud makes up around 40% of all recorded crimes and attempts. I’m sure if every fraud attempt was reported, the real percentage would be way closer to 99%. That might finally get some attention - from the public and our MPs alike.

I reckon someone must have passed on my info to them, because they knew my full name and where I live. When I first picked up, I went along with their survey but gave silly answers just for a laugh. They kept on offering me ‘free stuff’ and asked if they could ring me back, but I turned them all down. For the next few days I got missed calls from the same number, so eventually I answered again. When they asked for “my full name” I told them they’d got the wrong person. She said sorry and promised to take my details off their list. Honestly, it’s probably best to answer and just play clueless!
