I keep getting 2 or 3 calls everyday, usually I ignore them but it’s getting really annoying. The guy said he worked for a mortgage company and could save me some money on my mortgage. I told him my mortgage was settled years ago, and he said he’d update their records. Then he started asking about my house insurance cost, and when I told him it was none of his business, he just hung up.

I've been plagued by this number ringing me more than ten times a day for well over a week now. They've somehow managed to get hold of my complete name and date of birth, which is rather unsettling. They approached me with an offer to re-mortgage my house, but what’s truly disturbing is that I’ve just purchased a home that I'm not yet residing in-somehow, they knew that address even though I'm still listed at my previous one. When I declined their initial proposition, the caller swiftly pivoted to offering me free products in exchange for a review, which I also declined. Not one to give up, they then switched gears to pitch me pet insurance. I made it abundantly clear that I wanted my number taken off their call list, yet here I am, still being bombarded, usually from different numbers but with the same area code. It’s getting rather tiresome!

I received a call from a local number that had me curious, as it was a Derby code. They seemed to have an alarming amount of information regarding my mortgage and lender, and initially, I thought they might be legitimate in trying to provide me with a more favourable offer. However, as the conversation progressed, I started to feel quite uneasy and pressured to connect with another representative. Thankfully, my bus arrived just in time, and I managed to hang up. Lesson learned-I won't be answering calls like that in the future!

Without reports, the police won’t grasp how widespread these scams are or what sort of tricks scammers are using. Right now, police data suggests fraud makes up around 40% of all recorded crimes and attempts. I’m sure if every fraud attempt was reported, the real percentage would be way closer to 99%. That might finally get some attention - from the public and our MPs alike.

It seems my details have been leaked, as they were aware of my name and home address. The very first time I picked up the phone, I dutifully went through their survey, concocting fictional responses as I went along. They attempted to entice me with offers of ‘complimentary gifts’ and follow-up calls, but I firmly declined everything they suggested. Over the next three days, I received repeated calls from the same number, so I decided to pick up again. When they referred to me using my full name, I feigned ignorance and told them they had reached the wrong number. The caller apologised and assured me she would remove my number from their database. So, it might be worth answering next time just to throw them off!
