So I got a call and a robotic voice said they took £500 from my Visa or Mastercard card, which put me on alert straight away - why mention two card types? Then they asked me to press 1 if it was right and 2 if it wasn’t. That’s when I hung up and looked the number up online to see if it was dodgy.

I just got a call saying, “Thanks for reserving a train ticket to St Pancras. £160 has been charged to your card. Press 1 if that sounds right,” or something like that. Honestly, it’s a fresh twist I hadn’t heard before. I haven’t been to London by train, not even once, and the last time I was in the city was over six decades ago! No way I’m hopping on a train now, and fingers crossed I’m not daft enough to fall for these dodgy calls.
