My wife received a phone call today from an unknown number. When she politely declined their offer and expressed disinterest, she was asked the following question, "Are you worried about ending up in a care home and having your home taken away from you?" Shocked by the intrusiveness of the call, my wife quickly hung up the phone. It's unfortunate that some individuals assume that elderly people like us are vulnerable, but fortunately, we are still sharp-witted. If you come across this number, I advise you not to answer the call.

I received four calls from an unknown number in one hour, so I let my answering machine handle them. Surprisingly, there were no messages left. Strange, isn't it?

I had an utterly vile experience with a company called Prestige Tax and Trust Services. I was convinced by their pushy salesperson to sign up for their services, as they promised that by doing so, the local authority wouldn't be able to use my home to cover my care fees if I ever ended up in a care home. However, my daughter researched this claim and discovered that it was complete rubbish. I basically threw away a significant amount of money for absolutely nothing - a pack of lies. When I made a complaint about the situation, they informed me that I had exceeded the cancellation period, which I hadn't even been informed about in the first place. Stay far away from this appalling company. Don't waste your money on their services. They go by the name Prestige and should not be trusted.

What a dreadful experience! This company is far from impressive; they don’t bother to respond to inquiries and their so-called ‘free advice’ isn’t free at all. You’ll end up shelling out a fortune for wills and trusts, and their customer service leaves much to be desired. When I looked this number up on the Companies House site, it showed a company called Silver Rose Marketing located at Apex Office, Watervole Way, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, DN4 5JP. This business was set up back on 4th March 2013. The directors named are Andrew Stewart Hesketh and Wendy Hesketh.

Got a call from Prestige Tax & Trust Services about dodging care home fees, they said they’d be visiting someone just down my road the very next day. The company is based at 1 Watervole Way, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, DN4 5JP. You can find them online at prestigetaxandtrustservices[###]. The best way to deal with these muppets is to report them to the TPS like I did after their call. The TPS got back to me pretty quickly and said they’d reached out to the company.

Booked him in for the same day, nice bloke, chatted away about the care act, setting up a trust for my house, power of attorney and wills and all that. Didn’t wanna sign up for anything though, he caught on and took off.

I almost got caught out by this one before I saw the comments here! I even set up a time for someone to call back, but once I checked this website, I pulled out. Still, they keep calling me. Everything sounded quite convincing, and given my situation atm I really wanted it to be legit. Should have been more careful tho. It’s really awful for people who are more at risk. This kind of thing needs to be banned.

Got a call from Prestige Home Care sayin they’d be in my area the next day and wanted to pop by! She was really clear she wasn’t selling anything. Still, I never agree to meet anyone from a cold call, feels dodgy and I think it’s against the rules anyway!

Here’s how I handle these scammy lot - I always thank them for ringing and act like I’m really keen. Then I chuck out fake info like a made-up name and a rubbish address, usually a derelict old pub about to be knocked down nearby. Their poor caller ends up wasting their time travelling there. Seems fair, since they’ve wasted mine. After that, I block the number. Weirdly, they never ring again. Feels good to turn the tables on these w******!

I received a phone call from a lady who mentioned the Care Act and offered her assistance in providing legal advice. She insisted on scheduling a call or appointment with someone who is conveniently "in the area". It seemed like she was promoting this as a public service, specifically advocating for the Government to remove the requirement of selling one's house to cover care-related expenses. However, I quickly recognized her script as a typical sales approach and ended the call by making some excuses. What's interesting is that, like many others, I am registered with TPS (Telephone Preference Service), which clearly this person or company did not bother to check. She mentioned that the name of her firm is Prestige.

My carer answered my phone and a woman asked for Mr. XXXXXX, assuming I was married. When he asked what they wanted, she said it was about legally releasing equity. Got a random call from someone claiming they were contacting everyone nearby, and they ended up speaking with my wife. The woman asked if she knew about the community care act - big mistake, as my wife works in senior management for Derbyshire social services! When my wife pointed out that the community care act no longer exists, the caller hung up sharpish. Watch out for these people pushing services using outdated laws; they could seriously mess up vulnerable folks’ finances.
