I received a dubious call purporting to be from the National Crime Agency, which alleged that my national insurance number was about to be suspended. I've never encountered such a scam before! The robotic voice urged me to press 1 to speak with an officer. Out of sheer curiosity, I complied, only to be greeted by someone with an accent far removed from Buxton's local tones. There was a cacophony of background noise suggesting it was a call centre. The conversation was quite challenging to follow due to her accent, but it became apparent she was fishing for personal details to potentially defraud me. I informed her that in the UK, your national insurance number can’t just be suspended, and she promptly hung up on me.
