I got a call from someone saying they were from the telephone preference service and wanted to upgrade my plan. They asked for my credit card info, but I just gave them some fake numbers. Then I got transferred to a “senior account manager” who said they’d make the changes once they had my card details confirmed. So I told him what I really thought and ended the call.

Today, I’ve had this number call me about 9 times. I picked up once and a woman with an Asian accent was on the line claiming to be from telephone preference. She then asked for my bank card expiry date, which I refused to give. She started yelling over me after that. I told her she was being really annoying and mentioned I might just change my number, but she said that wouldn’t help at all. Despite this, calls keep coming through from numbers ending in 15, 16, and even 05 now.

Honestly, BT should just stop these calls by blocking the number and shutting down the account behind it. I’m sure they’d need to check things out a bit first, but they’ve got plenty of people to handle that. Thing is, they probably don’t want to because they’re making cash from it too. The smartest move is to tell BT you’re not paying a penny more than you have to, at least until they stop profiting from these dodgy scams.
