Received a call purporting to be from Fonehouse, trying to entice me into a new mobile phone contract. When I pressed for details on how they acquired my number, the chap was tight-lipped, which struck me as odd since I’ve never had any prior interactions with their company. His accent had a distinct Indian lilt to it. Quite the peculiar experience!

I got a call from someone claiming to be from EE marketing. They told me the 4G EE SIM I’m using would stop working in about 4 days and offered to send me a new 5G SIM instead. They said it should land at my place by next Monday. They gave me this reference number: XO286675827. The person said they’d ring back in 10 minutes after confirming the SIM was sent out. They did call back and said their name was Mike. When I asked why their phone number showed up as Spam and had been flagged for potential fraud, the call suddenly dropped.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with Three, saying they had a deal on the iPhone 13 for £45 a month. When I asked what would happen to my existing contract, he said the company would cover it under the promotion. I told him I’m already a Three customer and can’t upgrade until next year, then he just ended the call.

Total scam. Someone rang saying I’d got 50% off my O2 plan and to punch in a code sent by text. I ended the call and then called O2 myself - they said it was a dodgy call. No sooner had I hung up, I got two more calls from different numbers, probably connected to the same scam.

Got a call earlier supposedly from O2 saying they were celebrating their 37th anniversary and giving me 30% off for the rest of my contract. The caller mentioned I’d get two security texts and needed to stay on the line to share the codes with him. Smelled fishy to me. I questioned if they were really from O2 and pointed out that surely a genuine discount wouldn’t require any security codes. He then said the codes were actually promo codes, which made me even more suspicious. I told him I’d ring O2 myself to speak with an official advisor. He tried to hand me a ‘head office’ number, but I refused and ended the call. Felt dodgy all the way - I’d recommend not getting involved with calls like that.
