He was trying to persuade me into signing up for an iPhone 13 at a suspiciously low rate of just £20 monthly, promising unlimited data. He began inquiring about my card information and postcode, which set off alarm bells in my head. It’s frustrating to find myself caught up in such a scam at the ripe age of 69. One would think I’d know better by now!

Received a call purporting to be from Fonehouse, trying to entice me into a new mobile phone contract. When I pressed for details on how they acquired my number, the chap was tight-lipped, which struck me as odd since I’ve never had any prior interactions with their company. I got a call from someone claiming to be from EE marketing. They told me the 4G EE SIM I’m using would stop working in about 4 days and offered to send me a new 5G SIM instead. They said it should land at my place by next Monday. They gave me this reference number: XO286675827. The person said they’d ring back in 10 minutes after confirming the SIM was sent out. They did call back and said their name was Mike. When I asked why their phone number showed up as Spam and had been flagged for potential fraud, the call suddenly dropped.

I received a rather curious call claiming to be from the Three network, touting a deal on the iPhone 13 for £45 a month. When I inquired about my existing contract, the chap assured me that his company would cover the remaining balance as part of the offer. However, I mentioned that I'm already a Three customer and won’t be eligible for an upgrade until next year. After that, he abruptly ended the call. Quite the odd experience!

Scam alert! I received a call claiming I was eligible for a 50% discount on my O2 contract and asked me to read out a code sent via text. The moment I realised something was off, I hung up and contacted O2 directly, who confirmed it was indeed a fraudulent attempt. Strangely enough, right after that, I got two more calls from various numbers, which I suspect are connected to the same scam. Stay alert!

Got a call from someone claiming to be with Currys PC World, trying to sell me some discounted phone contract. The lady had a thick Indian accent and you could tell she was in a busy call centre with all the noise in the background. She mentioned the TPS, like she knew what it was, but clearly wasn't following the rules.

I received a rather peculiar call today purporting to be from O2, claiming that as a celebration of their 37th anniversary, I was eligible for a 30% discount for the remainder of my contract. The caller insisted I would get two security texts and wanted me to relay these numbers back to him, which immediately struck me as dubious. I questioned whether a legitimate O2 representative would actually need confirmation via a security code to process a discount, to which he replied it was a promotional code instead (even more fishy). I mentioned that I’d prefer to contact O2 directly to verify this offer, at which point he tried to provide me with a supposed head office telephone number (likely leading back to his scam operation). I firmly declined and hung up. I strongly recommend steering clear of such calls-definitely a red flag!
