I reckon these callers might be debt collectors, pretending to talk about boilers or lottery winnings just to find out how much money you’ve got lying around every month to clear your debts! One time, a family member was having a tough time trying to save her home from repossession. After her meeting with the bank manager, he asked if she played the lottery. Last week, I got a call from someone pushing lottery tickets for some kind of group. I told them straight up I don’t buy things over the phone and wasn’t keen, but the lady kept going on and on, so I had to just end the call. Then they called again today, this time a bloke answered, and I told him again I wasn’t interested but he just kept rattling off his spiel. I ended up shouting “I AM NOT INTERESTED” and then hung up. The line was pretty crackly both times and both callers struggled to say my name, which isn’t difficult, so I reckon they’re overseas.

Each time I pick up, I'm told I've won five lottery tickets for the weekend draw, and if luck isn't on my side, they're assuring me that I'll definitely win something else. However, they insisted that in order to send me these supposed tickets, they needed my bank account details, card number and all that nonsense. When I decided to refuse to share my information, I was unceremoniously transferred to a so-called "manager," who I could swear was the same woman I'd just been speaking with! I got a call from a woman supposedly based in Bradford, saying she could hook me up with 150 euro lotto lines a week for just £9.25 a month. She claimed if I didn’t win, they’d refund me in full. She assured me they never ask for any personal info over the phone. Yet, almost immediately, she started quizzing me about my bank and even my sort code and account number. That’s when I ended the call. Oddly enough, they rang back less than 30 seconds later, insisting the offer was legit and that their number was appearing on my caller ID. The caller said her name was Kerry Smith, but with her thick Indian accent, I’m not convinced that was genuine. I could be wrong, but it felt fishy. I told her off again about asking for my banking details when they said they wouldn't, then hung up. They then attempted to extract my banking details. When I flatly refused, I was put through to someone who supposedly was the manager. He insisted he simply needed my reference number linked to my sort code. I told him that’s essentially my bank account number and there was no chance I’d divulge it. At that point, he hung up on me. When I told them Camelot doesn’t offer any Euromillions service like that, they just hung up on me. I rang Camelot afterwards and they confirmed they have no connection with this and there’s no such service.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with the National Lottery syndicate saying I’d won 10 free tickets for Friday’s Euro Lottery because I’d entered a competition online. This lady called me trying to convince me to accept a ‘free’ boiler. I told her straight up, nothing’s ever free, especially not a boiler. She claimed the government would cover the cost through some sort of grant, but honestly, the government’s never given me a penny, so I called her bluff and said it sounded like a scam before hanging up.
