Got a call from some so-called “survey” company. They asked all these questions about my age group and then I’m pretty sure they’re just selling your details to other businesses. When I tried ringing back (01274 792012), it went straight to some robotic message saying the number’s not valid. The name they gave was Choice Today.

Do you recall how, in those initial hours after the tragic incident, both law enforcement and the media were reporting on Ryan Lanza’s girlfriend or possibly an ex, along with a mate who were said to be unaccounted for in Hoboken? The chief-or whatever his official title was-in Connecticut even mentioned that the police in Hoboken were dealing with an unfolding situation. Nowadays, it’s clear that the shooter was Adam, Ryan's younger sibling, but I can't help but wonder how those individuals who were reportedly missing were connected to all this?

I got a call from a bloke in India who could barely get through a simple sentence in English. He kept saying he wasn’t trying to sell anything, but then pushed me to confirm my address, which he actually read out to me first. I just ended the call because these types of calls happen all the time now. It’s so frustrating because when you report it to the cops, they couldn’t care less and just tick a box without even noting the phone number.
Next thing they’d probably do is ask for bank details since they can guess the first 8 digits of your card number (those are standard depending on the bank).

I’ve got caller ID, so I can see who’s calling. The number 01274792012 pops up quite a lot, buzzing in maybe twice within an hour sometimes. It looks like a UK number but I never bother answering. As soon as the voicemail kicks in, they hang up sharpish. If it was someone important or a mate, they’d leave a message, and I’d call back. It’s not like an apocalypse or some dreadful omen, but honestly, it’s a bit of a pain. When I’m feeling a bit bored and they ring, I’ll sometimes shout into the phone “what do you want?” just to see what happens next. A retired fisherman mate I’ve got in Skye does something similar - he puts on the Gaelic radio and leaves the phone by the speaker. Best thing is to stay on your toes and maybe have a little fun messing about with these calls rather than just ignoring them.

Got a call from an Asian woman wanting me to verify my name, address, age, my phone number and TV service. She never said what company she was calling from so I just ended the call. She’s called a couple times but once I didn’t respond she just hung up.

Got a call from this number the other day. Picked up and a guy with an Asian accent was on the line claiming he was doing a survey. He said if I took part, my number would be taken off their calling list. I told him my number’s ex-directory and that I’m signed up with the Telephone Preference Service. Then I asked him where he’d got my contact from, but he insisted it was just out there somewhere, which I knew wasn’t true. To throw him off, I started firing back questions - name, employer, even how much he earned. That didn’t seem to go down well because he hung up sharpish. I’m glad I’ve got a BT 6500 phone, which anyone getting these annoying calls should get too - I’ve blocked that number now, along with all international and withheld caller IDs.

I got called like five times, and on the last call, this woman actually said my name - kinda creepy if you ask me!

This number has been ringing me like mad this week, but it’s always so muffled and the person talking had a really heavy accent, didn’t catch what they were after at all. Weirdly, on our BT phone it just shows up as ‘no number’, which is super annoying. I ended up having to use 1471 to find out what the number actually was. Very strange.

I picked up the phone and someone was asking for a person who doesn't live here. I told them they must have the wrong number, but they just told me to buzz off. When I tried calling back to sort it out, the number said it was unknown. Quite annoying, really.
