Got a call that seemed like a scam but felt a bit risky too.

I reckon it's probably those cold calls trying to pitch insurance rather than an outright scam. Still, makes me wonder how they even got my number in the first place.

They keep ringing me even after I told them to stop calling and remove my number. It’s so annoying, drives me mad 🤬

I received my first call from someone named 'Joe' yesterday. I noted down the number. When I tried to return the call, the line was completely silent. Joe was pushing me to renew the insurance for our washing machine, fridge, and oven. He claimed to be affiliated with DOMESTIC INSURANCE, which he said was the renewal section of Domestic & General. We used to have coverage with them, but it's been years since we did. Joe insisted that my policy was due for renewal today and that I could snag a 35% discount, making the coverage just £219. I mentioned I would verify with D&G first (he provided a number: 01977 594365… could it be another scam?). I intended to contact D&G using the number from their website but ultimately didn’t go through with it. Then, lo and behold, Joe called me again today, urgently trying to persuade me to renew before the supposed deadline. I hung up on him, and that's how I ended up on this site. Take heed from my experience and everyone else's here!

I got a call from a bloke who said his name was James. He somehow knew my name and even my full address, then started talking about renewing insurance for my fridge, washing machine and cooker. When I asked which brands the policy covered, he couldn’t give me any details. Then he wanted me to pay £219 for a yearly cover. I told him I wasn’t interested and asked for the contact details of his company, which he claimed was "Domestic Insurance". He couldn’t provide an email or a proper phone number, just told me to ring 03332008989 instead. Definitely a SCAM, don’t fall for it!

Got a call from 01273 655137 today - some bloke claiming to be from "Domestic Appliances" wanting to renew my kitchen appliance warranties. When I asked which ones, he said my washing machine and fridge freezer. Thing is, he had no idea who made them or where I bought them from. Seemed dodgy to me. Told him to jog on and blocked the number straight away.

I got a call from a person claiming they were with Domestic Appliances and wanted to chat about my insurance. I told them I don't have any insurance with that company, but he just wouldn’t accept it and sounded quite rude. So, I ended up just hanging up on him.

Got a call from 01273655137 about renewing my coverage for my fridge, cooker and washing machine. I figured it was a con straight away since my fridge is over 18 years old, even tho I’ve replaced some of those appliances since then. When I asked what brands they were, the caller couldn’t give me any details. They did know my name tho. Said they’d call back but never did. These cheeky calls are getting way too common now, so just be careful and don’t trust every call you get.

Some bloke rang me, kept calling me Mrs Gillcrest or something. I kept asking who he was, like, at least five times, but he just brushed it off. Every time I asked him to clarify, he seemed to dodge the question. Then out of nowhere, he just hung up on me! Proper strange behaviour.

I got a call from some call centre in India and honestly, they didn’t seem to care at all about protecting my details. It’s shocking how little security they’ve got in place. I really think phone providers need to block these calls right from the beginning.

Some bloke ringed me saying he was calling about the warranty for my household appliances. I knew it was dodgy straight away since I’ve never bothered with any insurance or warranty for them. I asked him which appliance he meant, and he said the washing machine. When I asked for the brand, he said it was Hotpoint, but I told him that wasn’t right and requested the model number, which he couldn’t give me. Funny that, eh? He then asked if I wanted to renew the warranty, but I told him I’ve been fine without one so far, so no thanks.

Got a call from someone with a foreign accent saying our Domestic & General cover for kitchen gadgets was about to run out and wanted us to renew it. I was sure we don’t have any D & G policies, so I told him to buzz off! From what I’ve learnt before, D & G always send info and offers through the post, never over the phone. I received a call insisting I had insurance for my household gadgets, suggesting I could snag a discount on my premium due to my lack of claims. When I inquired about my current payment amounts, the caller became rather irritated. The truth is, I don’t even have cover for domestic appliances! It’s clearly a telemarketing ploy or perhaps a scam aimed at fishing for my banking details.

I received a rather pushy call from someone asserting that I had some sort of appliance insurance that was about to be renewed. The thing is, I’ve never taken out such a policy! When I challenged their claims, they became increasingly aggressive, and as soon as they realised I wasn’t about to part with £299, they abruptly ended the call. I received a call on my landline from someone who already knew my name. They started off by mentioning that the coverage for my washing machine and fridge had expired. Clearly, this is a dodgy operation. The caller claimed my household insurance policies were up for renewal and that I was eligible for a significant discount due to not having made any claims. This bloke rang me up, claiming my home insurance policies were on the brink of expiring and that I’d be eligible for a rather generous discount if I coughed up the full amount for the year. Naturally, I pressed him to provide my policy number and to recall what I’d been paying last year. To my astonishment, he hadn’t a clue. Clearly, it was a dodgy con. I gave him a piece of my mind and sent him packing!
