Phone number ☎️ 01273252080 👆 is reported as a persistent HMRC-related scam involving automated calls and voicemails from a number linked to Brighton. Callers use aggressive, often American-accented robotic voices threatening legal action, arrest, or asset seizure over alleged unpaid taxes. They frequently mention a supposed officer “Sarah Wilson” and demand immediate callback, warning of consequences if ignored. Many victims note the calls are intimidating, manipulative, and designed to elicit personal details or payment. Genuine HMRC communications do not threaten customers by phone or request immediate payment without prior written notice. Recipients strongly advise ignoring, blocking, and reporting the number to Action Fraud and HMRC. This scam targets vulnerable individuals and has caused considerable distress, highlighting the need for caution and vigilance when receiving unsolicited calls regarding tax matters.

If you get a dodgy call on your landline from someone saying they’re from HMRC and they start threatening you with court or jail or asking for vouchers as payment, just end the call straight away. Make sure you report it to HMRC too, so they can try to stop these scammers.

Got a call from someone saying they’re from HMRC about income tax fraud and that they’re going to arrest me. She told me to look up the number online and then ring back. She also said, "We’re not here to prove who we are." I told her I’m not giving any details over the phone and asked them to send me something in writing instead.

Totally with you, something like Sarah Wilkins? Just like the 14 July comment, I found it kinda amusing how she went on all scary during the call, saying I’d ‘face the consequences’ if I didn’t answer. Then out of nowhere she ends with, ‘Goodbye and Take Care!!!’ Bit weird if you ask me. Definitely gonna report it to Action Fraud, fingers crossed they catch these lot...

Just like others have said, I got a threatening voicemail from someone claiming to be Officer Sarah Wilson from HMRC. She said if me or my lawyers don’t ring her back, I should “prepare for the consequences.” That definitely doesn’t sound like how a proper government agency would speak, especially since I’ve never had any official letters or anything from them. Total scam. They also called me from a different number, 02081235194.

I have no clue who this 0273 252080 is, they didn’t say a word when I picked up. The call came through at 12:09 on 14th July 2018. Since I wasn’t sure about the number, I looked it up online and came across this site (nice one for having it!). I’m definitely going to report this number to the TPS since all my phones are signed up with them.

Got a voicemail warning me to ring them back or else there'd be legal action, claiming to be from HMRC. They said a case was being brought against me for unpaid taxes. They even had my previous address but couldn’t respond properly when I asked stuff. When he asked if I had a lawyer and I said no, he said he’d assign one for me and then just cut the call. I later phoned the genuine HMRC, who assured me my tax info is all correct and sorted.

Got two automated voicemails saying Sarah Wilson from HMRC was trying to get me to call back, said it was urgent and if I ignored it, there'd be legal trouble. The message finished with "take care," which seems odd for HMRC. Had a look here and this number is ringing loads of times. Better not pick up if this number calls you!

Just got a call from this number, a guy with an Indian accent claiming he was from HMRC. Right away he was all bossy, telling me not to speak until he’d finished his spiel! Then he started with scare tactics about the police freezing my bank accounts, taking my passport, and arresting me for tax evasion. Pretty obvious it was a con. Just got a call from folk saying they're from HMRC, threatening legal action and looking into my income tax. They asked if I had a solicitor. When I kept asking if they were really HMRC, the person with a strong accent told me to wait for the police to show up and then hung up. Like others have mentioned, it's definitely a scam. I reckon they've also been sending phishing emails too.

Had some robotic American voice on the line, and yep, Sarah Wilson popped up again. Wait, wasn’t she in that Terminator film or something?

I received a voicemail supposedly from HM Revenue and Customs, threatening that I must return the call before legal action was taken. Curious, I called back using my pay-as-you-go mobile, and the chap on the other end told me the woman I needed to speak to was occupied in a meeting. He insisted he was with HMRC, but it felt awfully dodgy to me. At that point, I decided to hang up. Definitely a scam!

Got a call from this number today, sounded American, they said they were Sarah Wilson from HMRC. Didn’t fall for it, obvious scam. Hope they stop messing with people more gullible than me soon.

Got a voicemail from some "Sarah Wilson" warning of terrible trouble if I don't get back to her right away. Obviously a scam, so I just ignored it, but this website made me feel a bit better about it. I've blocked the number now.

They’ve phoned me loads of times. I blocked the number after seeing what others said. It shows as Swansea, so why isn’t there a way to stop them for good?

I had a missed call logged from this number too, with a voicemail left behind that I only listened to hours after. Funny thing is, nothing came of it when I didn't return the call.

Got a robotic American woman leaving a message on my answerphone saying I need to ring HMRC urgently or there will be consequences for me or my lawyer. Pretty obvious it was dodgy so I just ignored it, but glad I found this site to confirm I wasn't being paranoid.

This number rang my daughter today (she's 19) and they were really rude and horrible to her on the phone. She was smart enough not to share anything personal, but ran to me crying because they said the police would be at her house in 2 hours! I rang back and a man answered, but when I told him I’d report him he started stammering and then just hung up. Seriously, never give these people any of your details. Absolutely disgusting individuals.

This number rang me a couple of times yesterday and a few more today. A robotic woman’s voice left a really scary message, saying I had to ring back straight away with my lawyer or I’d end up in court or even jail! And then she ended by saying "have a nice day!" as if nothing!

Got a call on my mobile around 4.30pm today. A robotic lady’s voice, kinda American sounding, saying she was from HMRC and that I needed to call back. Took me a moment to figure out it was dodgy. Checked this site and it confirmed my gut feeling!

Got a voicemail from a woman with an American accent saying I must call HMRC back urgently, said it's super time sensitive and not to ignore it. She gave her name as Sarah Wilton. They warned about serious consequences if I didn't ring back. We decided not to answer.

This number rang me twice today. I tried calling back but they wouldn’t say what they were doing for HMRC. When I didn’t give them my personal info, they got really annoyed and just hung up on me. After that, they ignored my calls completely.

I got the exact same voicemail today, saying they’ll take me to court if I don’t respond. It’s so funny how these scammers always end with something like “goodbye and take care” - like they think that makes it sound legit! Honestly, they don’t seem to have a clue.

Absolutely a scam, they claim to be from HMRC and say you owe some crazy fee or charge (then they scare you with threats about your house, car, passport, credit cards and all that). Never give them any personal info. My flight got delayed big time today, so to kill time, I've been messing with them by calling back loads of times. Honestly, it's been quite entertaining!

I had a couple missed calls from this number. When I rang back, some bloke with an Asian accent picked up. I asked what it was about and he said I had to provide my details to renew my working tax credits. Sounded a bit dodgy to me.

I noticed two missed calls on 10/07/18 at about 9.30 to 10.00 am from a Brighton area code, 01273 252080. Since Brighton's where I'm from, I called back. A man answered with a strong accent, maybe African, claiming to be from the Inland Revenue. I hung up straight away and blocked the number. Definitely a scam, so don’t pick up or share any details. If you do answer, just end the call and block them.

Got a call around 1pm today from someone saying they were HMRC, left a voicemail asking me to ring back. When I called them back at 5pm, they said I had an automatic court date for not paying some tax bill from an audit of my last five years. I just ended the call and searched the number online - turns out it’s a scam, so I’ve blocked it now.

Utterly fraudulent-these tricksters are incredibly persuasive. It's best to steer clear of any communication and definitely keep your personal information to yourself. Make sure to alert Action Fraud about it, too.

I chose not to answer a call that came through on my mobile and instead received a voicemail. I could tell right away that it was a scam and not authentic at all.

Got a missed call that went straight to voicemail from someone saying they were Sarah Wilton, an officer at HMRC, from the number 01273 252080. The message sounded urgent and said I or my solicitor had to call back immediately or there’d be serious trouble. They warned not to ignore it, saying legal action would follow. Ended with a "goodbye and take care" which felt off. Definitely didn’t bother returning the call - I’m pretty sure HMRC always sends official letters, not threatening voicemails. Watch out and don’t pick up if you get this one!

Just like everyone else has said, they call saying they’re from HMRC and then start threatening legal stuff. It’s really frightening, especially for older folks or anyone who might be more vulnerable.
