I got a call on my mobile around 8pm from a very polite woman who said her name was Harriet Earl or something similar. She had this posh accent and claimed to be a dedicated Greenpeace fundraiser. She started asking me why I had signed a petition about protecting whales and rattled off a bunch of stats about how well Greenpeace’s campaigns were going. Then she tried to get me to pledge £10 a month as a regular donor. I got a bit wary when she asked for my bank details like account number and sort code, but I told her I’d manage payments online myself. She even guessed it might be because I didn’t want to share my bank info over the phone. Afterwards, she kept asking for my email and whether I was happy to get texts too. I told her I admired the work Greenpeace do, but honestly, this call has put me off supporting them anymore. I only answered because the number was local to Brighton and we’d just had a bereavement here. Turns out I’d missed six calls from the same number since July! If this was really Greenpeace, it’s quite poor to be pestering people like this when their fundraising guidelines say otherwise. Feels like they’ll end up losing more supporters than they gain with tactics like this. Very disappointing.

I told her I couldn’t speak for him unless she talked to him directly. After they spoke, and he gave permission for me to chat, she suddenly said her screen had frozen and that she’d call back another time. I asked if she could at least tell me why she was calling, but she immediately hung up. After that, I blocked the number. Seems fishy to me - probably some dodgy business going on.
