The caller insisted that I had an insurance policy for domestic appliances that I’d supposedly held for the last three years, claiming it was now due for renewal. They were trying to sell me three years’ worth of coverage for the bargain price of £395, which they said was a special offer. Strangely enough, they knew which bank I use and even attempted to provide the first digit of my bank sort code to convince me of their legitimacy. When I pressed for my existing policy number, they claimed they could only provide the number for a new policy starting immediately, but didn’t have the details for my current one. They were quite persistent and wouldn’t accept my refusal.5 yearsGot a couple of calls in as many days from someone saying they were from appliance insurance.
