I asked them what company they were from, told em I knew it wasn’t BT, then they just hung up straight away. Now they keep ringing but just drop the call without saying anything. How come this mess has got so much worse all over the country? Why’s Ofcom not doing more? And why doesn’t BT seem bothered that their name’s getting used for scams? date: 08/09/2018 at 2:05pm. Caller said they were calling from BT Openreach, asking me to check my router because some engineers had supposedly changed my connection. They kept pushing me to test the speed on my computer and insisted I use Microsoft. A couple months back, a similar call happened where they said I could get compensation and asked for bank details. This lined up with my broadband getting very slow from my provider POP TELECOM. I think someone inside might be giving info to scammers. We've switched providers since then. The phone number they called from was 01268 681416.

Got a call from someone named Peter at BT, sounded like he had a pretty thick Indian accent. He wanted me to enter some keys on my computer to fix my router issues. Trouble is, the guy was a total conman and a bloody scammer with zero honesty or guilt. Hopefully, one day he’ll realise what a terrible person he’s been.

This number has rung me 4 times in just two days. I screen all calls with my answerphone. Every time the message starts, the call just cuts off. Seems like a scam for sure. Also, never enter anything in the 'run' box after hitting 'windows key + r' - that’s how hackers download stuff onto your PC. Heard it can cost about 10p per min to call this number back too.

Some bloke called George from BT Open Reach, or so he said. I humoured him for a while but got annoyed pretty quick, so I called him out as a scammer & he just ended the call.

This bloke called himself "Peter" but his English was awful, and I could tell straight away from the delay when I picked up that it was those Openreach scammers again. He kept going on about some new gear at the exchange and needing to set up my router or something. It was so hard to follow that I just cut him off and said, "You're not from Openreach, you're an Indian scammer trying to get into my router, and I'm sick of you ringing me." Then he told me to F##k off and hung up. Nice one!

I got the exact same call earlier today. The lady told me to press Ctrl + R together, but when I said I was uneasy about it, she just ended the call. I ended up reporting it to BT. Feels awful, I only got a few minutes to talk to her. Tried calling back but all I got was a message saying they were really busy right now.

This number has phoned me around 15 times this month. It’s another scam from overseas, claiming to be BT Openreach fixing broadband in your area. Don’t believe it for a second. They just want to get into your computer. I usually stall them for about five minutes before telling them to get lost. Most times they end up swearing and hanging up. Hopefully, I managed to waste enough of their time to stop them targeting someone more trusting.

Every single day this week, I’ve had at least one phone call starting from 8 in the morning. I’m really fed up now. Got a call from this number early this morning about 8am, same lady same story. They kept ringing me every day, at all hours. I told them I’d report it to the cops. When I asked why they kept calling today, the woman just hung up. They then tried me again from a few different numbers. Both me and my husband have disabilities so getting up for these annoying calls is really frustrating. In the past, they’ve also been pretty rude.

Got a bloke with a strong Asian accent on the line, saying he was from BT Openreach. Played along for a bit while he went on about some changes to the DLM in the local exchange. He claimed my area was impacted, so I told him I run a VOIP setup and could be calling from bloody anywhere. Got a call from someone called Peter Williams, sounded like he had a strong Asian accent, was pretending to be from BT Open Reach. Played along for a while, but eventually got annoyed. I just got a new router installed a few weeks back, and I actually spoke to a proper Open Reach engineer, so this 'Peter Williams' was definitely talking rubbish. Recorded the whole chat and ended up wasting about a quarter of an hour of his time. Didn’t do anything he asked, but it was quite amusing for a bit.

I've told them a couple of times already that I'm a BT engineer (which obviously I'm not), and that usually gets them to hang up.
