I got a call from a bloke who never asked for personal stuff, instead he claimed my phone was infected with malware and tried to get me to install some dodgy antivirus. On the 25th March 2022, I got a call on my landline from a guy with a strong African accent. He claimed to be from the Nationwide fraud department. I didn’t trust him at all, so I just ended the call straight away.

I received a rather dodgy call from someone purporting to be from NatWest, insisting there was some questionable activity on my mobile banking account. He had a fragment of my postcode and tried to press me into providing the rest (clearly the intention was to pry out more personal info if I bit). He went on about how, if I refused to verify my identity with him, I’d have to traipse down to the branch with my photo ID (how ridiculous!). When I challenged him, he completely lost his cool and became quite rude. Honestly, these chaps are nothing short of idiots! The smartest move is to simply ignore any calls from numbers you don’t recognise.

I just received a call from this number, claiming to assist me with a suspicious transaction on my account. The caller requested that I verify my customer ID by providing my date of birth, which made me quite uncomfortable. When I hesitated, he switched tactics and attempted to confirm my card number, starting with 4751 30. I pointed out that all NatWest cards begin with that sequence, at which point he abruptly ended the call. I’m now in the process of contacting my bank to alert them about this incident!

Back in October 2021, I got caught out by some scammers pretending to be from NatWest. They were so believable it was scary, even managed to tap into my phone line to keep up the trick. When I went into my local branch, they confirmed it was indeed a scam. I called 159 to report it, and they warned me that the scammers might next pose as police officers. Somebody rang me pretending to be from NatWest’s fraud department and wanted my card details plus answers to security questions. I decided to ring NatWest myself and they said it was definitely a scam. Weird thing is, the number they called from is actually the one NatWest uses for overseas calls.

I’ve just had a rather dodgy call from this number, and let me tell you, it’s a right con! I strongly advise against sharing any personal details with them.
