I got a call from this number, claiming they needed to confirm my name and address because of some supposed debt I owed. I told them quite firmly that I didn’t have any debt at all, but before I could finish, they just cut me off and ended the call.

The moment I picked up, I knew they were scammers from Pakistan (just stating the facts, no hate). I decided to mess with them for a good 15 minutes, pretending to be grateful and relieved when they mentioned they could help reduce my £15,000 debt. But they were hopelessly thick and really believed they had a chance with me. Then I asked the woman if she herself owed money. When she said yes, I told her I was actually debt-free and could probably help her instead. That set her off, she got proper angry and started shouting. I’ve blocked the number and reported it to Action Fraud and these bloke sites. They sounded like a dodgy debt company trying to get your details or maybe push some fake loan offers. I got a call from someone saying they were from the ‘credit investigation bureau’ and they already knew both mine and my partner’s names. We’ve just recently applied for a mortgage, so I guess they’ve picked up our info from that. The lady had a polite tone and a South Asian accent, told me I had some unpaid debts she could sort out for me. I kept asking for her company’s name and where exactly she was calling from, but she stayed polite and kept insisting I owed money on credit cards. The call quality was awful with loads of background noise like a call centre. When I asked if I could ring back to confirm her number and speak with someone else, she just ignored that and repeated the debt claims. I said I was about to hang up because it sounded like a scam to me, but she didn’t say anything back.
