Got a call off this number, some bloke said he was from BT, told me my phone bill was too high and I’d been overcharged. Total scam, be careful!

My phone shows who’s calling first, so the person didn’t bother to leave a message and hung up. I looked up the number on this site and ended up blocking it because it turned out to be spam.

Just got a call from South Midlands railway about a £108 charge on my credit card for a train ticket from London to Edinburgh. They said if I don't recognise it, I should call back and talk to one of their reps. Bit fishy if you ask me!

Some guy with an accent called me, started with "Good day, how you doin'?" I said I was alright, but honestly, not after your call. After a bit of silence, he said he was from the 'energy dept'. I told him straight up he was just a scammer and there's no such thing as that dept. Then I blocked him without hesitation.

I picked up and there was silence on the other end, but I could faintly hear a woman with an Asian accent talking to someone else in the background. She kept asking for information about a bank statement over and over again. This carried on for several minutes. Luckily, it sounded like the person she was trying to reach either hung up or didn’t respond. Really hope nobody ended up getting scammed out of their cash. It was quite unsettling to listen in on what sounded like a dodgy scam.

Got a typical scam call today, started with "how are you?" then they tried to say it wasn’t a cold call. I said it clearly was and asked who they were. When I pointed out the lie, they quickly hung up with a "thank you, goodbye." It’s really worrying how easily some vulnerable folks might get caught up in this and end up agreeing to things they don’t actually want.

Somebody rang me saying I'd paid around £300 some years ago for some kind of computer security service. They knew my name right, which was a bit creepy. The person told me they were shutting down in the UK and supposedly owed me a 65% refund. I didn’t recall any of that and already have my own antivirus, so I told them I wasn’t interested and figured they got the wrong person. Then, they just hung up on me. Looking back, it was likely a dodgy call trying to fish for my info, but I didn’t suspect much when it happened.

For about a week or so, a person with what sounded like an Indian accent kept ringing me, saying they were from Total Gas & Power. They wanted me to answer a bunch of security questions, which immediately raised my suspicions. I told them I wasn’t able to talk at that moment. Later, I contacted Total directly, and they confirmed they hadn’t called me. Looks like a scam for sure - be careful as they don’t give up easily.

These scammers are proper dirtbags, honestly so annoying. What I usually do is tell them we don’t get electricity bills because our landlord sorts them out, then I drop Regus’s name since they’re the biggest commercial landlord in the UK. Plus, I’ve got the Hiya app where I report these numbers straight away. Numbers like 01259340032 and 01259340028.

I just received a call from some folks in India trying to sell me IPTV services at ridiculously high prices. They directed me to their site, worldwidetv.uk, which supposedly has amazing internet TV deals. But when I looked it up, the site was only created in January 2024, so it’s hardly even a year old. I told them I wasn’t keen, mostly because I’m pretty wary of random cold calls from India given how many scams seem to be coming out of there nowadays.
