As soon as I picked up, they hung up straight away. Makes me curious if these sorts actually earn money just by dialing random numbers without saying a word?

They called my elderly uncle, who’s 92 and has never had any interest in technology. He wasn’t pleased and firmly told them to leave him alone-though I’d say his exact words were a bit more colourful, ha! Definitely a scammer at work.

This arvo I picked up and some bloke with an English accent asked if he’d got hold of Mr [my surname]. I shot back saying since he called me, he should already know. Then he just said, “You’re a smart one, huh?” and put the phone down.

This is an age-old con that's been around the block a few times. You'll often receive a phone call from someone pretending to be from a tech support service, and their main aim is to persuade you into downloading some dubious software onto your computer. Once they get you to do that, they might hold your machine hostage, demanding payment to regain access-or worse, they could wipe all your data clean! In short, it's a right dodgy scam!

Just had a call from a chap claiming to be “James” from Microsoft moments ago. He insisted that their systems had picked up some sort of virus on my machine. In a rather pushy manner, he urged me to download a particular programme to supposedly sort out the issue. Honestly, it feels like a right con job to me...
