If you get scam texts, make sure to report them to 7726, that’s what the Action Fraud site tells you to do. Also, there are a couple of TV shows about scams you should check out. Seems like this site’s algorithm can’t handle naming them directly, but think BBC One and Channel 5, and watch on iPlayer or My(number after 4). Proper scary but really important if you have any kind of bank account. Last year scammers got more than £1 billion out of us Brits, and these shows really explain how they pull it off.

I got a call from a company called Tax Refund Team Ltd (TRT), who said they could help me claim Marriage Tax Allowance from HMRC. They boasted about getting up to £1,250 back for the last 4 tax years, which sounded great. What they didn’t tell me upfront was that they take a whopping 38% cut of whatever refund they manage to get you. They were quite pushy too, trying to get me to digitally sign a consent form quickly. I almost got caught out by it, so watch out. Luckily, I found out later that you can easily apply for this yourself online at no cost at all.
