Got a call out of the blue from someone claiming to be Brighthomes, saying they’d been covering my appliances since 2016. I told them I don’t have any contract with them at all. When I asked what the supposed fee was, they mentioned £99. I said I’ve never paid that amount, then suddenly they just hung up on me. Definitely dodgy, smells like a scam to me!

This man rang my elderly mum and actually knew her name. He claimed to be from Swiss Home Services and said she had set up something two years ago, and now a Visa payment was overdue. My mum noted down the number he gave as 0202045396898, saying she’d have her son ring him back. When I checked the 1471, it showed a different number - 01254360417. Shortly after, my mum called me to check what was going on.

This guy claimed I’d signed up for insurance a couple of years back. I told him I hadn’t, and then he said he’d look into whether he’d got the wrong number. Pretty clear to me it was just a scam.

Some bloke kept telling me that they’d take £300 from my account today unless I took a discount offer. Like loads of others, he said he was from "SWIFT" insurance for home stuff. He said to get the discount I’d have to give him my bank info! Naturally, I asked him which bank I use and he couldn’t answer. I told him to jog on and called him a con artist, but he just kept going! Then he asked if my wife was on the line contacting the bank. That was my cue to end the call.

Had a call from Brightness Homes saying they were going to charge me £3 or maybe reduce it to 1.99. I told them I wasn’t connected to that company at all. The bloke ended the call by saying he’d send a receipt for the payment and wished me a nice day.

Like many others, I've had a rather dodgy experience recently. My father received a telephone call purporting to be from Homecare regarding an insurance policy and an enticing 40% discount. He insisted he didn’t have any such policy, and the caller insisted otherwise, saying, “Oh yes, you do; I've got all your information right here.” When I chimed in to inquire about the identity of the caller and the purpose of the call, they abruptly disconnected. I've since made sure to block that number on our phone.

He then claimed there was an overdue payment of over £300 from before. When I tried to ask more, he said they’d just take the money straight from my debit card. I asked which card, but he said they’d send me a bill and that I could sort it out with the company myself. Then he just hung up on me. Sounded like a guy in his forties or fifties.

Got a call from this number today. The caller, who spoke with a foreign accent, oddly tried to 'announce' himself to bypass BT’s Call Guardian. He sounded super sure he was legit, but he was pretty vague about what electrical equipment we supposedly had some kind of insurance or maintenance on. Creepy thing is, he actually knew the amount we pay for some sort of coverage, and he rattled off our name, address and postcode like that was proof he was genuine. Still, I’m certain this was a SCAM. I've now blocked the number so it won't even come near the Call Guardian if they ring again.

The person said I’d reached out to them two years ago and had already paid £81 to sign up. I honestly don’t remember any of that and there’s nothing showing on my bank statement either. I got a call from someone named Tanya at Maintenance & Repair Direct from Blackburn, number 01254 360417. She said they’d be taking £390 out of my bank account for insurance on my Samsung TV that I supposedly bought in 2020. When I told her I never agreed to that, she insisted I had and said there was a recording of it. She said she’d send me a copy of the recording to prove it.
