Lately, I’ve been getting loads of calls like this. Most of the time, the person on the other end either stays quiet or just doesn’t want to have a conversation. Maybe they were hoping for a bloke to answer? Since we hardly use our landline anymore, every ring makes me suspicious - usually it’s someone I’d rather not chat with, or just another one of those creepy silent calls. We’re registered with the TPS as well, but it doesn’t seem to do much good; UK calls still keep coming through.

Got a dodgy call on 25/09/17 from a woman with a South Asian accent, then some bloke popped on. They said they were from BT, claiming they’d sort out my awful broadband, but it was a scam to nick cash. The number they used was 020777777771, which looked totally fake. After I changed all my online passwords, I got another call from 01253698571. It rang once and ended, like maybe they were trying to warn me or catch me out for changing passwords. I used 1471 to check where they’d called from. I’m desperate to track them down and get my money back - plus some extra for the hassle!

Got a call from someone with a thick Indian/Asian accent. They said there was an issue with the local exchange and wanted me to check the lights on my router, then switch lines. Asked me to open my browser and type 'perfmon' or something like that. At first, I thought it might be genuine since my internet has been awful today, but I just didn’t trust it. I told them I had someone at my door and asked for a number to call later. They gave me 02895810642 and said their name was Michael Watson. After seeing reviews on this site, I’m definitely not calling back!

Got a call from a guy with an Asian accent who said his English name was something else and claimed he worked for BT. He was going on about fixing some problem with my internet after supposedly a 'collision' on the BT line. Even after I told him BT don't provide my internet, he wouldn’t back down and kept arguing. I just left the phone on so he could ramble on by himself.

At 12.55 in the afternoon on the 31st of August, I got a call from a woman speaking with a heavy Indian accent. She claimed there was a problem with my BT internet due to some kind of 'accident'. I wasn’t fooled and told her straight up that I knew it was a scam trying to trick me out of my info. I also suggested she find a real job instead of bothering people with this rubbish.

I get calls from this number a couple times every week. I always ignore it, but they just don't give up. I never pick up numbers I don’t recognise, no way I’m giving them the time. It’s really not good for older people though, they might panic if it rings non stop. Wish someone would do something about these dodgy callers and put an end to it.

Somebody rang saying they were from BT openreach. They told me my fibre broadband had been disconnected without me knowing, and that lots of people were using my connection to download stuff and it was causing viruses to pop up.

Today alone they’ve called me four separate times, telling me there’s an issue with my BT broadband. They kept saying they’d have to cut off my internet for three hours later if I didn’t get rid of some threatening viruses on my computer. The line was filled with loads of noise and the callers’ English was really bad. Definitely watch out and don’t get tricked. A week ago someone rang saying they were from BT, but when my partner contacted BT, they confirmed they hadn’t called since June, which was two months ago.

Today I got 4 calls from these lot telling me there’s a problem with my bt broadband and that they need to switch off my internet for a few hours this arvo unless I clear some nasty viruses from my computer. The line was full of noise and their English was really bad. Watch out, don’t let them trick you. Last week someone rang me pretending to be from BT, but when my husband checked with BT, they said they hadn’t contacted us since June - that’s two months ago.

Got called again for the second time in just a couple of days. Yesterday, I didn’t really want to chat and when I asked if it was BT Openreach, the guy must have twigged I wasn’t interested, so he just hung up. The bloke was pushing it hard, saying I didn’t get what he was explaining. Got a call where the guy had my name and said the local exchange was changing, mentioning something about fibre shifting to another frequency or something like that. The bloke didn’t even seem sure where the exchange was. When I told him I’d ignore any letter unless it came from my actual provider, he warned I’d be off the internet for a few days. I asked him for a direct number so I could call back, but he just gave me the usual BT general line. When I pressed him about which department he was from, he said ‘BT Openreach Help Desk’. Felt a bit dodgy, if you ask me.

Got a call from a bloke claiming to be with BT, saying he’d accidentally snipped the cables and needed to switch my internet channel. The connection was really bad and he spoke with a strong accent. He then told me to enter some kind of code into my PC. Seemed a bit dodgy if you ask me.

He said he was looking out for me against hackers - honestly, you have to admire how relentless they are. I got a call around 2:55pm, and the bloke began with "good morning, sir". He claimed he was calling from British Telecom. The connection kept cutting out, so I asked how I could verify he was actually from BT and whether he could provide a phone number. He tried to give me a number starting with 0208, but the call dropped again right there. That’s when I ended the call.

She told me my IP had been hacked or something and asked about the lights on my router - how many were blinking and how many were solid. She then wanted me to turn on my PC and type in a string of numbers (888dca60 or something like that) to fix the problem. I got suspicious, phoned up my internet provider and yep, it was a total scam aiming to get into my computer. I ended the call but then they rang back from a number starting with 0061441... I ignored it and hung up again. Stay alert guys!
