Put the caller on hold after hearing that classic call centre racket, you could tell where they were from straight away. The idiot didn’t even know what to do with an answering machine, just kept breathing down the line, probably out the mouth or something. At least this website and all the comments provide some amusement. Absolute scam artists, the lot of them.

Just got home and they've called me 5 times! Like some others have said, they claim to be from the Telephone Preference Service and ask to check my visa debit card details. I held them on the line for a bit to waste their time before telling them to buzz off.

Got a call claiming I'd been in a car crash that wasn’t my fault, but then they switched it up to ask if I’d had a work accident instead. It felt totally automated with weird silences after I picked up, and they just ended the call by saying a flat “yes” before hanging up. Just blocked the number and flagged it as spam. Typical rubbish.

Today, I got quite a few calls from this number and finally picked up thinking it might be something important since the number looked real. The person on the other end said they were from TPS, claiming that starting tomorrow all calls - local, national, and international - would be blocked unless I 'updated my details'. I wasn’t having any of it and told them I'd check with the official TPS line myself if it was necessary. The guy, speaking with a strong Asian accent, kept trying to persuade me he was legit but I just cut the call. Glad I didn’t fall for it!

Got hit with 5 calls today from someone saying they're with the Telephone Preference Service, supposedly wanting to update my card info. They asked if I’m still getting spam calls, and I told them yeah, and that their constant ringing is just adding to the hassle. Someone called me claiming to be about TPS, which I’d enquired about not long ago. They gave a wrong name but insisted they had the right number. When asked for my details like name and address, I told them they should already have it on file. Then he read out an address that was nowhere near correct. He kept pushing for my address, saying they’d send a written confirmation to stop scam calls. I refused, so he warned I’d keep getting calls! I just said fine and he hung up on me. I’ve since added the number to the blacklist using 1572 so hopefully, they won’t bother me any more.

Today I got called about 4 times by a woman sounding Asian, called Helena or something like that. She wanted me to verify my name - I said nope. Then she asked if my postcode was #######, again I said no. She also asked if I get loads of nuisance calls; I told her “you’re one of them!” Honestly, how can they improve a service I don't even use, and which looks pretty useless anyway? Reading the other comments here, I feel lucky I ended the call so quickly. Feels like one of those annoying things that just won’t go away!

Got a call from some bloke named ‘Eric’ who said he was ringing from the ‘Telephone Preference Unit’. He asked if we were still getting annoying calls. I told him flat out that no such thing as the Telephone Preference 'Unit' exists, and he seemed proper miffed, telling me I wasn’t paying attention. I told him straight up it sounded like a dodgy scam because he couldn't even say the organisation's name right. We ended up exchanging a few swear words before he hung up on me.

Received a call from someone saying they were from the telephone preference service, asking me to verify my info supposedly for ID purposes, including the six numbers underneath my name on my visa card (sort of like a sort code, I think). Another caller said his name was Henry Wilson. Both sounded like they were speaking with thick Indian accents. I've already told the police about it.

I received a rather aggressive call from a gentleman who identified himself as being with the TPS service. He insisted on acquiring my personal details under the guise of helping me with unwanted calls. Quite the irony, don’t you think? This website states that the number originates from Bangor in Wales. The caller seemed to have knowledge of both my home address and the name of the property owner. They spoke with an Indian accent and expressed a peculiar interest in discussing scam calls, particularly those coming from overseas. The individual claimed that my current direct debit payments were on the verge of lapsing and urged me to check my bank statement for information, though they never requested any card details directly. When I mentioned I'd need to consult the homeowner, they insisted on holding the line while I did so. However, upon informing them that the homeowner wasn’t around, they promptly disconnected the call. The caller alleged they were with BT or representing them, yet this was somewhat ambiguous. It certainly felt like a fishing expedition-quite ironic that a supposed warning about scams turned out to feel like one themselves. Who can say what the reality is? - caller: identity not disclosed.

I had quite the run-in with an exceedingly insistent man of Asian descent who claimed to be from TPS.
