I recently received a rather dubious phone call from a gentleman of Asian descent, who identified himself as representing Carphone Warehouse. He was exceedingly insistent and made some outlandish assertions regarding his ability to extricate me from my present contract and transition me to a new one without incurring any expenses. This appears to be a classic phishing attempt aimed at snagging my banking information. I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of such calls!

Rang me at twelve thirty in the morning! Thankfully, my home phone is equipped with a call-blocking feature, so it filtered the call out. I didn’t even catch a peep from the phone, and given that both my home and mobile numbers are registered with the Telephone Preference Service and no one has my home number, I can tell it’s a dodgy sales call... When I receive these pesky calls from Carphone Warehouse on my mobile, I simply inform them that they’ve dialed a police line and that their call is being monitored as they’re infringing the law.

Got a call on my home phone around 8:30am on 14/01/22. It was a woman with a really thick foreign accent saying she was from Openreach. I told her I wasn’t involved with them at all. Then she switched to saying it was about my mobile and some kind of attempted access. I just ended the call straight away.

They outright refused, which was quite frustrating. I pressed for the contact information of their Data Protection Officer, citing GDPR, but was met with an absurd 'Company Policy' excuse for withholding such information. I then requested to speak to a manager, only to have another sales pitch thrown at me. When I reiterated my lack of interest, they questioned why I was wasting their time. A chap rang me, saying he was from mobiles.co.uk, and he wouldn't take no for an answer. He was desperate to know my phone model, claiming he could offer me a swanky deal on a new device. I mentioned I’d only just gotten a new phone, but that only seemed to egg him on. He even suggested they’d pay off my current contract if I switched to them! The whole thing gave me a dodgy feeling, so I politely turned him down and hung up.
