The caller claimed to be from Edinburgh Research, but when I tried searching them on Google, nothing seemed to come up.

They just rang once and then hung up without leaving any voicemail. Got calls like this from about 10 other numbers too, such as 012331074021, 01233334988, 01233746295, 01235330165, 01236267015, 01236707046, 01236707048, 01236803613, 01236803614 and 01236884154. Seems like a pattern.
