Like most days now, I just let the ringing go unanswered, then dialled 1471 out of curiosity to check the number. After that, I googled it to figure who might have been trying to reach me. I hardly pick up my phone anymore unless I’m expecting someone or recognise the caller, because honestly, over 90% of the calls on our landline turn out to be annoying spam. Honestly, if it wasn’t for needing the line for the broadband I’d have ditched the landline ages ago. I’m even thinking of boxing the phones up and stashing them in the loft!

I've got a TrueCall device that blocks this number, so the calls don’t come through to me. Instead, they hear a message from me saying to stop calling. But they keep ringing back, often multiple times in a single day. Surely there’s a way to get them stopped for good?

This afternoon my mum, who lives alone and is widowed, got a phone call saying there'd been a car crash involving someone at her home address. She quickly hung up because it sounded odd, but it scared her enough to phone the rest of the family to make sure everyone was okay. Thankfully, everyone was fine. The problem is, she doesn’t have caller ID, so she tends to pick up every call. I really hope she doesn’t start getting loads more of these calls, but judging by other stories, I’m not too hopeful.

Would you believe it, I actually had a claim just a couple of years back! Picture this: I had parked my motor in a cinema car park, and out of the blue, some bloke whacks into it. Thankfully, nobody was injured, and he kindly left a note apologising. His insurance company handled everything seamlessly-loan car included-so it cost me absolutely nothing. Absolutely splendid! That's the kind of story I relish sharing with those pesky cold callers! Honestly, give it a go; you might be pleasantly surprised!

Got a call tonight from someone claiming to be with the RTA, saying there’d been a car crash I supposedly was involved in but wasn’t to blame for. I kept my cool but gave a firm reply, and they ended the call quickly. It’s so annoying how these calls keep coming through. I’m honestly sick of these calls, no matter what I say they just keep ringing back. So I decided to get myself the BT8500 Advanced Call Blocker from BT. What a difference it’s made! Now, when they try calling, their number gets blocked straight away and I don’t have to answer anymore. It still tells me when a blocked call comes through, but at least I’m not bothered. Proper result that!

My mum, who struggles with her hearing, overheard the word "accident" when she got a call and totally freaked out. She ended up calling me, really upset and shaken. These scammers are just awful and really ought to be charged for their harassment.

I’ve been getting loads of calls from these people about a crash we had where someone hit the back of my car. Luckily, no one got hurt and the other driver's insurer sorted the repairs. Last week they called me three times in one afternoon, and just now they rang four more times. I told them to quit ringing me and to remove me from their list, but this woman kept saying I hadn’t claimed any personal injury compensation. I had to tell her again that no one was hurt and asked her properly to leave me alone. It’s really getting on my nerves now and feels like harassment - wish there was a way to make it stop.

Got two calls in as many days. I asked where they got the info about me supposedly being in an accident during the past couple of years, as the caller claimed. They said ‘from the RTA Department’. So I shot back asking which RTA - some sort of police unit? They dodged that one. Starting to smell a rat, I asked if I was chatting to some automated voice system. They answered yes. I then told them to take their nonsense somewhere else, maybe the cops. The voice then said ‘We’ll remove you from our list’. Might be worth trying the same tactic to stop the calls. By the way, if you dial that number back, all you get is a tone - no chance to speak, which just proves it’s an automated nuisance, nothing real behind it. I got a call from a woman with a strange accent using the number 01234 945006, claiming she had proof I was in some sort of accident. She wouldn’t say which company she was from at first, but after a lot of pressing she mentioned something called Nationwide Trust Bureau based in Manchester. The weird part is that the 01234 code is actually for Bedford, not Manchester! When I kept asking her how she even got my accident details she just gave up. I never actually told her I hadn’t been in any accident, just kept dodging it.

I keep getting calls from these jokers, but at least they give a number. I rang Orange and they say they're aware it’s a scam. They told me if it’s a VOIP call, the scammers can spoof any number they like, so they might not even be in the country. When I try calling the number back, it says it's not recognised and then the call drops. Guess this is what happens when we let banks and companies have call centres abroad - no wonder they know some of your info but not everything. It’s obvious they’ve got some kind of system to block outgoing calls from us. Come on tech people, sort us out with something to stop all these dodgy calls!

Since this number is registered in the UK, the company behind it ought to be aware that they’re breaking the law, both from the EU and local regulations, especially as I’m on the TPS list. If I manage to track down who’s responsible, I’m definitely going to take legal action against them under the Protection From Harassment Act.

Got a call from some guy who sounded Indian, kept pestering me for my middle name. I kept telling him to share his first. This went back and forth for a bit. He claimed I’d been in a car crash and kept begging for my second name. I told him the only time I want an Indian voice on the line is when I’m ordering a curry, then rudely told him to jog on. When he asked again for my second name, I just said “put-put-put-put-put,” and that muppet just hung up.
