I received a rather dubious phone call from someone claiming to be following up about a car accident I'd never experienced. It’s baffling, really, as I've never been involved in such a thing! He went on about assisting me in securing insurance compensation as a so-called “victim” of this imaginary mishap. Absolute nonsense, if you ask me! Best to simply block this number and move on with your day.

I got a call from someone saying they were Sky, but it felt a bit dodgy so I just ended it.

Just block them! These scammers use some dodgy software to scan websites like social media or Gumtree for phone numbers. As soon as your number pops up, they alert their call centre - probably based in India - to ring you up with scams about car accidents or similar rubbish. They tend to ring you back-to-back a few times, often switching numbers each time, pretending they’re all local UK numbers, but they’re obviously fake. If you get a call within minutes of putting your number online, don’t pick up - just block it straight away!
