We’ve had this Indian woman ringing almost every day for three days now, really insistent that she was legit. When we didn’t hand over the details she asked for, she turned quite aggressive and even said she’d disconnect our power. Proper dodgy scam, watch out for it.

Today, 19th September 2023, I received a call from the number 01225296086, claiming to be from Octopus Energy. I sensed something was amiss right away. They requested I locate an invoice and promised to assist me with the information they needed - if they were indeed Octopus, surely they would have all the information right in front of them! It was quite clear they were not who they claimed to be. I informed them that their number and location didn't match and that I wouldn't hesitate to give them a piece of my mind if they called again. I've also reported this to Octopus to ensure they’re aware of these dodgy antics.

Received a call from someone claiming to be with EDF, saying there was an issue with our meter reading. He mentioned a postcode that didn’t match up and requested the right one. Additionally, he asked for my email address. Quite shrewd of him to be asking for names too. His accent was distinctly Indian. Similar to what others have reported, he inquired about our meter number but seemed to have no clue himself. I’ll be reaching out to my actual provider for clarification now.

Got a call from a bloke with an Indian accent claiming to be from EON. He said there was a problem with our bill and it had to be fixed. I asked him to show he was legit, and he said he had our meter number. When I asked him to tell me it, he took a while and then stumbled over a number. I put him on hold for about five mins then came back and told him there wasn't any issue with our bills. He just ended the call. Watch out, loads of scammers going about!

Got a call from an Asian bloke claiming he was with Pozitive Energy, our supplier. He'd rang a while back too. Said there was some problem with the invoice, something about the meter reading not registering properly. Since we're billed every half hour, I knew straight away he was talking rubbish! I told him I can see everything myself online and don’t need his nonsense. They just want your meter details and to get you to say yes so they can rip you off and switch your provider without you knowing... I told him to jog on. WATCH OUT, FOLKS!

My workplace got a call from this number, and the person on the other end acted like they were from the energy company we deal with. They actually had quite a bit of info, even how our bills from that company are laid out - which surprised me since the supplier isn’t exactly famous. Oddly, she already had my email and sent a one-time passcode which came with a message saying they’d never request that code over email or phone. I pointed this out to her, but she just ignored it. Pretty believable though.

I received a rather dodgy call today from someone claiming to be in touch with our accounts team. The chap had a pronounced Indian accent, and there was a cacophony of background noise that made it all the more suspicious. He asserted he was from our energy provider-when I queried who that was, he completely bypassed the question. Instead, he rambled on about a supposed error with our meter reading, insisting that a meter reader had mistakenly noted an incorrect postcode, which he then proceeded to recite back to me. He assured me that we wouldn't incur any charges, but oddly enough he requested our meter number. I told him I’d scrutinise our upcoming bill and promptly ended the call. It’s curious how he knew we were a business and what our postcode was yet had no clue who supplied our energy. It certainly felt like a fishing expedition aimed at snagging our meter number, and I suspect had I divulged that, it would’ve led to some sort of scam.

Received a phone call purporting to be from EDF. The caller requested to speak with the accounts department, but then proceeded to mention that our energy consumption was rather high. They expressed a desire to verify certain figures on our most recent bill. Quite peculiar, if you ask me!
