We’ve had this Indian woman ringing almost every day for three days now, really insistent that she was legit. When we didn’t hand over the details she asked for, she turned quite aggressive and even said she’d disconnect our power. Proper dodgy scam, watch out for it.

Today, 19.09.23, I got a call at the office from 01225296086 claiming to be from Octopus - total rubbish! Right away they asked me to dig out an invoice so they could tell me what info they needed next. I mean, come on, if they were really Octopus they'd already have that info, right? I told them straight up their number and where they said they were didn’t match Octopus at all, and to not bother calling back unless they wanted me to give them a mouthful! I’ve also flagged it to Octopus.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with EDF, saying our meter reading was off. They mentioned a postcode that wasn’t right and wanted the correct one. Also asked for my email address. The caller spoke really well and asked for our names too, speaking with a strong Indian accent. Like others have said in their reviews, they asked about the meter number but didn’t seem to have it. I’m going to reach out to my supplier directly now.

Got a call from a bloke with an Indian accent claiming to be from EON. He said there was a problem with our bill and it had to be fixed. I asked him to show he was legit, and he said he had our meter number. When I asked him to tell me it, he took a while and then stumbled over a number. I put him on hold for about five mins then came back and told him there wasn't any issue with our bills. He just ended the call. Watch out, loads of scammers going about!

Got a call from an Asian bloke claiming he was with Pozitive Energy, our supplier. He'd rang a while back too. Said there was some problem with the invoice, something about the meter reading not registering properly. Since we're billed every half hour, I knew straight away he was talking rubbish! I told him I can see everything myself online and don’t need his nonsense. They just want your meter details and to get you to say yes so they can rip you off and switch your provider without you knowing... I told him to jog on. WATCH OUT, FOLKS!

My workplace got a call from this number, and the person on the other end acted like they were from the energy company we deal with. They actually had quite a bit of info, even how our bills from that company are laid out - which surprised me since the supplier isn’t exactly famous. I ended up calling our real energy provider myself, and they told me it definitely wasn’t them ringing. Seems like they were fishing for details about our business, probably hoping to snag some bank info.

This number rang me up, and the woman said she was from SSE. She mentioned I’d been charged for someone else’s much higher bill from a postcode that was only slightly different. She said she’d ring me back later to give me time to dig out a bill (I’ve since blocked the number). Oddly, she already had my email and sent a one-time passcode which came with a message saying they’d never request that code over email or phone. I pointed this out to her, but she just ignored it. Pretty believable though.

I got a phone call from someone who wanted to speak to our accounts team. The caller had a strong Indian accent and you could hear loads of background noise. He claimed to be ringing from our energy company. When I asked which one, he just brushed it off and started talking about a misread meter reading, saying their reader had entered the wrong postcode. He then gave me what he said was our correct postcode. He told me there wouldn’t be any charge, but he needed our meter number. I told him I’d check it on our next bill and ended the call. It was clear he knew we were a business and our postcode, but didn’t actually know who our energy provider was. Feels like he was just fishing for the meter number to run some kind of scam afterwards.

He insisted he was from the metering team and knew my supply number, but I never gave him any details. Asked him to ring back instead. I looked up the number online afterwards and yep, seems dodgy. I had a feeling it was a scam from the start!

Got a call from an Indian guy, or at least I think that’s what I heard. He said he was from some electricity company reading meters and wanted info from our bill. Claimed there was a mistake with our bill, something like £9,000 owed, but told us to ignore it. Needed our details so they could supposedly fix the bill and send the right one.
