Someone clicked on an ad that took them to a bogus Microsoft page saying their computer had a trojan and they had to ring the Microsoft Support number shown. Luckily, they got in touch with our in-house IT (me) instead, and I confirmed it was a phishing site. If you come across a site like this telling you to phone a number, just hit CTRL+W to shut the tab and let your IT team know so they can block the site. If your browser's full screen, press F11 to exit it. Don’t call the number - it’s a scam and pretty much an old trick by now.

Over the past couple of days, a strange message has popped up on my laptop screen three separate times. It claimed I had a Trojan virus and told me to call the 'toll free' number 01224 980972, supposedly from Microsoft. It also warned me not to shut down or use my computer. I just switched off my laptop, left it alone for a bit, then restarted and ran my usual antivirus. Be careful with that number - it's risky since they ask you to give them remote access to your machine.

Got a message pop up on my computer warning it was disabled, and it told me to ring this number, saying it was from Microsoft Security. They told me not to switch off or close my PC, and that I'd need to call them to clear the alert. They said my computer had a trojan spyware infection and tried to get me to let them access my machine. Then they asked me to press Ctrl, Windows, and Q all at once so they could help me fix things, but I said no.

A concerning notification appeared on a work phone that's clearly a ruse. If you encounter this pop-up, I highly recommend pressing and holding the power button on your device. Whatever you do, steer clear of calling the number!

This could be a ploy to infiltrate your device or to swindle you out of cash. Just be cautious! The number in question is 01224990972.

While my spouse was busy on the laptop, a rather alarming message popped up claiming to be from Microsoft, warning that a trojan horse was infiltrating our device. The number displayed was 01224 980972. Curiosity got the better of her, and she dialled the number. An Asian chap on the other end insisted that he required access to our computer. By the time I walked in, he was asking for a staggering £800 to install a firewall. Naturally, we declined the offer. After ending the call, I noticed some dodgy software had made its way onto our system, which I promptly uninstalled. To be on the safe side, we've gone ahead and blocked our bank account until Monday.
