I fired up Windows on my Mac and got hit with some dodgy scam alert saying my PC was locked and that I shouldn’t shut it down or mess about, but instead ring the “Microsoft Support Team” on the provided number. Ran scans with Norton and Malwarebytes and neither picked up a single issue. Also ran Disk Utility’s First Aid on the drive and it came back clean as well. It’s a proper nuisance and I reckon it’s gonna take a while to clear this annoying Windows startup scam off my machine.

My partner’s laptop suddenly froze and displayed a message claiming our IP had been hacked, telling us to call a certain number and not to shut the computer down. At the same time, a loud recorded voice kept repeating the exact same message over and over. After looking it up here, we decided to switch off the laptop, unplug it from the power socket, and left it off for a few hours. When we powered it back up, everything was working normally again. It was really annoying and quite scary at first.

So, my husband's laptop got stuck showing a message that said to call this number. We've seen this happen once or twice before, and our usual fix is just to turn it off completely and wait a bit before switching it back on. Honestly, it’s a bit scary the first time it happens!

These people claim they're from Microsoft but it’s all a scam. They pop up on your screen with fake warnings. Best thing is to just ignore what they say and don’t follow any of their directions.

This was defiantly a sketchy call! My brother’s PC locked up, so he rang the number that showed on his screen. They then tried to take over his computer and asked for his passwords. Thankfully, he hung up right away when that happened.

Someone called, saying they were from Apple’s security team. They told me my Apple device was blocked because of some security issue and asked me to contact them on this number. It popped up when I clicked on a story about pyramids on MSN news! I quickly closed the tab straight away. I did snap a screenshot just in case you want to see it. Definitely seems like a dodgy scam.

It’s clearly a scam, but they make it seem really legit since your computer just locks up and won’t work properly. Definitely don’t call the number!

Just now I stumbled on that same page about pyramids (I’m really into ancient Egypt stuff) and suddenly it switched to some Microsoft Security alert, saying there was a security breach or something. I’m not great with tech, but after a bit of messing about, I finally got the page to close. Quite a scare!

Just got a call from another Ashbourne number (01335 770045) and it looks like it's from the same UK caller ID spoofing scheme or whatever. Two separate calls in as many days, and neither left a voicemail. I'm definitely blocking them both now.
