I had a rather unsettling phone call today from someone who purported to represent the government. They were rather keen on finding out the extent of my financial obligations, which was curious since I'm not in any debt at all-so I thought it prudent to probe a bit further. When I inquired about how they had come by my number, the chap insisted they possessed all sorts of information about me. I then challenged him by asking for my National Insurance number; surely, a legitimate government body would have access to that, while a scammer wouldn’t be able to produce such details. He then started to mumble something about a poor connection. I repeated my request several times, but he kept insisting the line was cutting out, at which point I simply decided to end the call.

To my utter disbelief, the person on the other end was incredibly rude and quite obnoxious.
