I keep getting calls from someone called David from Auto Assist, but the people calling have Asian accents. It’s really stressing me out and making me anxious to even pick up the phone. They keep asking about a recent ‘accident’ I had, which was totally handled by my insurance, so I don’t see why they need any info about it at all.

I simply won’t pick up if the caller isn’t familiar. After doing a bit of digging, I came across others’ experiences and have now added the number to my block list. Is there really no way to put an end to these pesky calls?

A couple of posts down show ways to deal with these scams and why just blocking might not really help. It’s just as quick to report these calls as to leave a comment here. We won’t see instant results, but at the moment, the police don’t fully understand how bad this fraud problem is or what new tricks are being used. If everyone who gets these dodgy calls and messages doesn't report them and push their local MP, nothing will change to put an end to these crooks.

I received a call that supposedly came from an insurance firm regarding a non-existent accident I'd supposedly been in. They asserted that the other driver took full responsibility and that his insurer had reserved some funds for me to cover my costs and hassle. As I chatted, I engaged in their questioning, but it was rather amusing because my account just so happened to align perfectly with what they claimed the other driver stated! After about ten minutes of this nonsense, I began to lose interest and informed them that I was recording the conversation; this promptly brought an end to the whole farce.
