I keep getting calls from someone called David from Auto Assist, but the people calling have Asian accents. It’s really stressing me out and making me anxious to even pick up the phone. They keep asking about a recent ‘accident’ I had, which was totally handled by my insurance, so I don’t see why they need any info about it at all.

A couple of posts down show ways to deal with these scams and why just blocking might not really help. It’s just as quick to report these calls as to leave a comment here. We won’t see instant results, but at the moment, the police don’t fully understand how bad this fraud problem is or what new tricks are being used. If everyone who gets these dodgy calls and messages doesn't report them and push their local MP, nothing will change to put an end to these crooks.

Got a call from someone saying they were from an insurance firm about a car accident I supposedly had (didn’t happen at all!). They said the other party had confessed fault and their insurer was ready to pay me some money for expenses and hassle. I played along with their questions, even matched my story with theirs perfectly. After around 10 minutes, I lost interest and mentioned the call was on tape, which made them cut off straight away.

There was a hold before they picked up, then a lot of background noise from what sounded like a call centre. I heard an Indian accent but then the call just dropped. When I looked up the number, it turned out to be a scam.
