I usually don’t pick up phone calls from numbers I don’t know, and seeing what people have shared here just shows how careful we need to be. A few years back, I almost got caught up in a scam like this. It was really unpleasant and could have ended badly. Best to just block these numbers straight away as soon as they pop up.

I left this number alone for around three days, but it kept ringing like 4 or 5 times daily. Eventually, I picked up and some bloke with an accent was talking really quickly. He started blabbering about giving advice and something related to debt registered through the council? I told him straight I’m an accountant and financial adviser and haven't got time for that nonsense... then hung up on him.

This lady claimed she was calling from the Citizens Advice Bureau, but I had a feeling it was just another dodgy call centre. The moment I mentioned that to her, she just cut me off straight away.
