So, what's ECO about? It stands for the Energy Company Obligation and it's a UK government initiative aimed at improving energy efficiency, cutting down carbon emissions, and helping those struggling with fuel bills. The programme kicked off back in April 2013 but has seen several updates since then. The newest version, called ECO3, started on 3rd December 2018 and covers projects finished from 1st October 2018 onwards. If they claim to be legit, just ask for their Gas Safe registration ID (it’s what used to be the CORGI number). Then you can look them up on the Gas Safe site to be sure they’re proper. I keep getting annoying calls from them at all sorts of hours, even when I get back from work and check my missed calls. It’s pretty frustrating!

I'm based in Birmingham and I can confirm that 0121 is definitely the correct area code here. But the '827' bit after it? That doesn’t ring any bells and I’m pretty sure it’s not a real Birmingham number. Sounds like these are fraudsters pretending to be local, trying to pull a fast one selling fake boilers. I’ve seen some messages here from them boasting about boilers in homes that don’t even exist - total nonsense! Best steer clear of these lot completely, they're just up to no good.

The next time they rang, I got some American voice message saying the number was disconnected. Also, be wary - there are loads of similar reviews on this site from folks with Indian or Pakistani names, which seems a bit dodgy and could easily be fake reviews by whoever’s behind this number!

Picked up the call and heard nothing but silence, which was pretty frustrating. Used 1471 to check the number afterwards, and a recorded message said it was related to a boiler scam. Since I’m on the TPS list, I’m planning to report this to Ofcom and the ICO - honestly, they should get a proper fine for this.
