Someone rang me pretending to be from the National Crime Agency, warning me that they’d arrest me because my National Insurance number had been stolen. It’s really worrying, especially if these calls get through to people who might not realise it’s a scam or are easily tricked.

The caller had a really hard to understand accent, but the number showed up as Birmingham, and I was waiting a call so I picked up. As expected, it was that classic scammer line, "how are you today ma'am." No idea how they even got my number since I’m pretty cautious about sharing it. Really annoying!

I have to pick up calls from unknown numbers because it’s a work phone, but didn’t think I’d get one from Birmingham as it’s quite far from where we are. I answered, but no one spoke, and then the call just ended from their side. Sounds like one of those call centre things. From what I’m reading here, it looks like it could be a scam as well.

Got a call from Mobile Phone City in Birmingham. Not sure if it’s a scam or just another telemarketer, but when I asked them to take me off their list, they flat out refused. Thought most telemarketers had to do that, though.

Got a call from this number on my phone. I don’t pick up if I don’t recognise the number. They didn’t leave a message, so looks like another spammer. Saw the comments, so I’ve gone ahead and blocked it.

A bloke with a foreign accent, maybe Indian, called my mobile claiming to be from Mobile City. He asked what phone I had so he could offer me a better deal. When I asked where he got my number, he said they’re authorised by every mobile company. I pressed him again but he wouldn’t give a clear answer, then just said “have a nice day” and hung up. Seemed like an obvious scam from the start, but I wanted to find out more to post here.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from a phone company, but honestly couldnt make out a word because there was loads of other scammy noise and people chatting badly in the background.

It said Mobile City or something. Number was from Birmingham so I picked up, but the line was awful and the bloke just cut me off. Sounds like one of those usual scams to me. Gotta think it’s dodgy given how loud and sketchy it sounded. Might need the cops to get involved.

mobile phone services. wish I never picked up. I told the caller I was sorry for missing the scheduled call, but the guy on the line, Ali, said we never set anything up and this was his first time ringing me. It seems like these callers often aren’t aware of UK regulations; I told him I get he’s just following orders, but he should know this kind of behaviour is against the law. Already reported it to the ICO.
