I've had a couple of calls from this number that I decided to brush off. However, the last two times, I picked up, and they kicked things off with, “Is this the Three account holder?” before the line mysteriously went silent. Just to clarify, I’m not even with Three! The number they’re calling from is set up to take incoming calls, so I’ve taken the liberty of ringing them back and letting it ring for a few seconds before I hang up. Quite amusing, really!

The caller muttered some company name I didn't quite catch and said he was ringing about my O2 account. I asked how he knew I even had an O2 account, and he said it was info he had right in front of him. I told him to double-check his details and to see if I was on the TPS, which I am, so he was actually breaking the law. He insisted he wasn’t, and I warned him to expect a hefty fine soon. I've already reported it to the ICO.

Received a call from this number, they said they were ringing because I’m an O2 customer and my details appeared as a ltd company or sole trader somewhere 'public'. They started talking about a business account or something. I told them they had the wrong details but they kept insisting it was ‘public info’ and said they’d take it down since it was out there. They rang claiming to be 'checking my EE account'. When I asked if they were actually from EE, they dodged the question and just repeated some scripted lines. I then asked how they had my info from EE, and they started rambling about having permission from all broadband and mobile providers to contact customers. I asked to speak to their Data Controller but they wouldn't put me through, so I requested their registration number with the Data Protection Authority, which made them hang up straight away. Definitely scammers trying to fish for info.
