Got a recorded call saying I’d been picked for a prize draw, and it was telling me to press 1 to go on with it or something like that. Definitely sounded like a dodgy sales trick to me.

I got a recorded call about banks, saying to press 5 to chat with someone or 9 to take me off their list. Since I’m registered with TPS, I pressed 5 hoping to speak directly. A fairly smooth-talking bloke answered, a bit too slick for my liking, and told me I ought to have pressed 9 instead. I told him I wanted to speak because I shouldn’t be getting these calls at all. He claimed it wasn’t a sales pitch and said they were actually trying to save me loads of cash! Eventually, he said they'd remove my number from their system. The company gave its name as "The Insurance Company".
