I received a call at precisely 15:17 from an individual named Sam, who claimed to represent a health service and informed me that I was eligible for a complimentary alarm system. I made it clear that, as a 55-year-old physiotherapist, I was fully capable of picking myself up from the floor. Nevertheless, he insisted that I was over 60 and that he had all my details correct. Ironically, I am contemplating acquiring an alarm for my father-in-law. Unfortunately, this option was dismissed as Sam persisted in rambling on about the alarm. I ultimately had to terminate the call because he wouldn’t cease his chatter and pay attention to what I was saying. I couldn’t help but think how distressing this would be for someone who genuinely requires such an alarm system.

When I answered, all I could hear was quiet at first, then a bloke called ‘Sam’ started talking. He kept pausing like he was chewing or something, kept stopping halfway through what he was saying. I asked him to go on a few times but eventually just said I wasn’t interested in an SOS pendant and ended the call. Didn’t even cross my mind that it could’ve been some sort of automated message reacting to what I said.

A chap claiming to be in the healthcare sector got in touch with me. He then attempted to peddle some sort of personal alarm device. When I asked for the details of his company, he refused to share any information. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!
