On the 11th of January 2023, I got a call from a number I didn’t recognise and there was complete silence on the other end.

This time it was someone calling as “The Solar Centre” and going by Alex, though I reckon he uses loads of different names. I just ended the call and put the number on block. I thought about reporting it, like others suggested, but the last time I tried that they wanted all sorts of personal information I wasn’t comfortable sharing.

Received a call from someone saying they were from the “Solar Centre.” I’m signed up with the TPS, yet they still managed to ring me. Got pretty much the same call just the day before. It’s a bit sneaky because it actually sounds like a genuine person on the line, but it’s just not. When you try to cut in, the caller freezes and asks stuff like “would you say that again?” I threw a simple question back at it, “What’s 3 plus 3?” and it totally messed with their automated setup.

I missed the call and decided to return it, only to be greeted by a rather unclear automated message. It claimed that I had recently received a call from “Felitastica Marketing” or something along those lines - honestly, the quality was quite poor. This raised a few red flags for me. The message continued, instructing me to press 1 if I wanted to opt out of their marketing, and if I preferred to speak to someone, I could hit 2. Quite dodgy if you ask me!

It’s obvious he’s using spoofed numbers because each time I block one, another different number pops up. I’ve blocked over fifty numbers from these scammers now, but it feels pointless cause they just ring back from a new fake number the next day. Honestly, it’s ridiculous that Ofcom and the phone companies don’t take stronger action to stop this nonsense.

A few comments below here explain how to inform the police about these scam calls. The reason we’re constantly bombarded with these annoying calls and messages is because some people, especially the more vulnerable, end up getting tricked and giving those crooks an easy way to make money without paying tax. Another big problem is that most folks don’t bother to report these scams, so the police aren’t fully aware of how widespread the problem really is. So please, do your bit and report every suspicious call or message you get. It’s no harder than leaving a comment here.
