BEWARE!!! Two scammers called my 82-year-old mum, first a woman who then passed the call to a bloke. They claimed to be from Virgin Media and said they needed to check her broadband speed. Virgin have since confirmed they don’t do this kind of call. They told her to run a speed test on Google, then said the ping was off. Next, they tried to take control of her device remotely by asking her to visit anydesk.com. Luckily, it didn’t work because she was using an iPad. When he asked if she had a laptop, she said no, and then he got annoyed and just hung up.

I’ve received numerous calls from 01l212725157, claiming to represent Virgin Media, which is amusing because I already have an account with them. Each time, the caller has a strong foreign accent, and despite my persistent requests for them to send me an email or provide the information in writing-since it’s quite difficult to grasp what they’re communicating-they just continue talking. It's mostly regarding my internet and Wi-Fi, but I must admit, it all comes off as a bit dodgy.

Some guy with an Indian accent called me. I could tell from the voices in the background since I spent a couple of years working in India. He told me my laptop was hacked and needed remote access. I humoured him for about 15 minutes while saying I was booting up my computer and waiting for updates to install. When he asked what I had to do, I said I had to download some software to let him access my machine. Then I told him I’d been tracking him and that my name was Jim Browning. That seemed to freak him out immediately. If you haven’t heard of Jim, just Google him!

I answered the call, as the number seemed believable. The woman on the line claimed to be with Openreach and started discussing Wifi and broadband speeds. I ended the call, suspecting she was attempting to market BT services, which I don’t utilise. My internet provider isn’t BT. She called again, but I chose not to pick up, and she didn’t bother with a message either.
