Same as lots of people here, the person phoning me already had my name and said someone was coming round today to check moisture and heat loss, promising a “no strings attached” report after. I gotta say, it did sound quite official at first and nearly caught me out. But once I started asking questions, things didn’t add up. Be careful, it’s easy to get tricked at first.

Got a call from a bloke saying someone would pop over to inspect our heat loss. He mentioned they'd look at one external wall and one internal wall. He said they'd already sent a letter in the post and an email, but I told him I hadn’t got anything. Then I asked him to resend the email and wanted to know which address he'd used. Suddenly, he hung up straight away.

I've just had another phone call from this company, my second in a year no less! The first one was roughly ten months back, where they tried to tempt me with a complimentary damp and moisture test. They also claimed there was an issue with the performance of my solar panels. I initially agreed to have them come round, mistakenly thinking they were the same firm that fitted my new solar inverter two years ago. After giving it some thought, I decided to reach out to my original installer, and what a stroke of luck that turned out to be! They promptly informed me it was a scam and reassured me that my solar panels were perfectly fine. They also cautioned me that having another company meddle with my system could void the 10-year warranty and service plan I'd signed up for with them. So, I immediately contacted Universal and cancelled the visit. For your info, my system was last serviced in November 2023 and received a glowing report.

When I told him I couldn’t catch what he was saying, he just cheekily hung up on me. You could definitely tell it was from some call centre because you could hear a load of people chatting away in the background. Oddly, when he actually started talking to me, he seemed to mute all the noise behind him. Very strange.

As soon as I picked up, the line went dead, no word said. I'm a woman, so I figured they were trying to get my partner. With how they acted, it definitely seemed like a nuisance call to me.

Got a call from someone saying they were from 'Universal Homes' real quick, just to tell me when my dampness survey was scheduled. I told them thanks but no thanks and ended the call. Pretty sure it was a scam.

I received a phone call claiming to offer a free service funded by the Energy Saving Trust. They arranged for a technical expert to come round, but when I tried contacting the Trust, their number redirected me to a different company that mentioned they’d been inundated with similar calls. They had no affiliation with the Energy Saving Trust whatsoever. The next day, the so-called “expert” arrived in a pristine suit, briefcase in hand, seemingly prepared to sell me something. However, there were no damp test meters or thermal cameras in sight - just a heap of promotional material for their products. I pointed out that they seemed to be running a scam, and he insisted they had been operating for years. I informed him that I had checked their credentials online, to which he seemed quite taken aback. When he asked what I expected him to do, I told him it would be best if he just left - and he did. I certainly wasn’t going to mince my words about the whole affair!

Some bloke called saying he was from the Energy Savings Trust and wanted to book in a moisture survey for me. I told him I wasn’t bothered and then just blocked the number straight away.

Honestly, I usually snap a pic of the number first if it’s one I don’t know. Then I look it up on this site. If it turns out to be a legit business, they’ll usually call me back. But if the reviews are rubbish, like most I see here, I just block the caller. Nowadays I don’t even pick up coz those ‘free’ surveys are never really free.

Got a call where the person wanted me to verify my name and asked if I was below 80 years old. Once I said I wasn’t, they just hung up on me straight away.

Got a call from someone saying they were with Universal Homes and wanted to check my house for damp because of the rising fuel costs. Totally a scam, they were trying to fool me by pretending to be from the government just to target vulnerable people.

Someone rang me about some damp & thermal checks, but it felt dodgy right away. I tried ringing back and just got straight to EE voicemail. If this was a real business, they’d be happy to pick up when I returned the call! Pretty sure it's a scam.

This number, 01206413151, was calling claiming to be Joseph from Dukes Energy. They rang my elderly mum and started askin questions before slamming the phone down. When I phoned back to sort it out, Joseph was quick to apologise, saying he’d called the wrong number even before I got a chance to say anything. Then he denied that the number we’d seen calling was his, though I’d just spoken to him on it! Pretty dodgy if you ask me.

A rather skilled fraudster claiming to provide damp assessments supposedly funded by the government has been pestering everyone. He was surprisingly adept at acting shocked when I declined his so-called offer. When I pressed him on the benefits of his service, his temper began to fray at the seams because I wasn't eager to accept this 'complimentary' proposition that he insisted was available to all. It was as if he couldn't fathom my refusal-after all, what could possibly be at stake? I soon made it clear that allowing a con artist like him into my home was a risk too great to entertain. His excuses fell flat on me, and in a huff, he declared I was wasting his time before abruptly terminating the call.

Like a few folks here, I got a ring from someone claiming to be Universal about checking for damp and moisture. I picked up since the number looked local and I thought maybe it was the NHS calling about a doctor’s appointment for my boy. Once he started with his sales pitch, I quickly said no cheers and hung up. Managed to dodge the hassle and nasty comments some others mention getting.

Just received a call from this number earlier today. A woman introduced herself as 'Jane', but when I replied with 'hello', the line suddenly went dead. Initially, I figured it was simply a mistaken call, but I decided to investigate a bit further. It could potentially be tied to a previous call I had a week or two back regarding a complimentary energy assessment that I agreed to, yet they never actually showed up for the scheduled visit. Quite curious, really!
