They ring me like multiple times daily, and all the numbers look pretty much the same, always tracing back to Bolton. It’s so annoying having to keep blocking them over and over :(

Picked up and the person knew my name right away. I asked who was calling and he said Alex from Social Housing. I told him it sounded like a scam and hung up. Legit companies always say their company name and their own name at the start of a call. Plus, I don’t even live in social housing. Blocked the number immediately.

Got constant calls from this number and one almost the same which I’d blocked before. First ring at 10 in the morning on a bank holiday no less! I’m still grieving so it’s really bad timing, feels like there might be some link. Probably one of those car accident claim scams? Got a call from someone about social housing stuff on Easter Monday night. I’m not sure how they had my full name and home address. The phone was crackling, so I gave them my email. Then they passed me on to someone who sounded like they had a South African accent. Honestly, it felt quite dodgy. If anyone knows this group is legit, please comment. Otherwise, I’d just avoid them.

Just a couple of tips on what to do if you want to put a stop to all these dodgy scammers tricking vulnerable folks out of their cash and pestering the rest of us. It does need a bit of effort, but I’ve been doing it - reporting scam calls and texts to the police via their online database (I’ve bookmarked the page). Sadly, it’ll probably take thousands doing this regularly before any real change happens, but loads of people report scams on here every day. You won’t see results overnight, but if nobody bothers, these scams will just keep getting worse.

Find the ‘report phishing’ section and read all the info carefully. Then you can submit the details about the scam, including any links or web addresses. You don’t need to register or give your personal details unless you’ve actually lost money. The more reports we send, the better chance the police have to track and stop these fraudsters.

got a call from someone saying they were with the credit investigation team, when i asked how they got my number since im on the telephone preference list, they said ‘my file’ (bit odd if you ask me) had been sent to them by the debt resolution forum. the fca should definitely be aware of this credit investigation lot, sounds suspicious.
