My mum’s quite old and this caller just wouldn’t stop bothering her. When she told him she wasn’t feeling great and couldn’t chat, he snapped back saying she didn’t even sound ill. She was trying to say she wasn’t interested but he cut her off, like he wasn’t done talking or something!

They use fake UK numbers that look legit and just ring through loads of numbers from the directory. Honestly, almost every call I get on my home phone is from some sort of scammer. I get a few on my mobile too, but it’s way worse on the landline. I’ve even posted my number on Twitter and with my friends on social media so others can be aware.

As I kept brushing him off and declined to share any details, his demeanor took a nasty turn - he became really quite aggressive before hanging up. Quite the experience, I must say!

BE CAREFUL - They come across as friendly and polite but they’re actually scams targeting older folks. They’ll try to get super personal info, like asking if you’ve got power of attorney set up and names of people who can make decisions for you. Then they say they want to discuss roofing insulation with those people. Just don’t reply and block these numbers straight away.

Got a call claiming to be from a government office, asking for the house owner. I said he was away on holiday, then when the caller asked when he'd return, I said a couple of weeks just to get rid of them. They wouldn’t say what the call was about, but I could tell it was a call centre with all the chatter in the background. Then they just hung up. I said I hadn’t seen any news about this from the government. They insisted it wasn’t actually the government behind it. After that, I ended the call. Total scam!
