Today at about 4.11pm, I got a call from this number. The woman on the line spoke English and claimed to be calling from Call Protect. I told her BT handles all my call blocking, but she insisted I’d been with their service for two years and now owed them £140.99. I cut her off and ended the call straight away. Afterwards, I dialled 1582, which seems to be an automated service, and it gave me an option to block the number by pressing one. I did that and now this number is blacklisted on my phone. I’d suggest others do the same so they don’t get bothered by these calls again. Cheers, Gordon

This morning I got a ring from this number claiming they were from some call blocking firm. They gave my name and part of my address, although some parts were wrong. They even mentioned a password I sometimes use, but always with a number added; I've never just used it alone. The caller said there was some kind of red flag saying I owed them cash. I cut them off real quick, told them I don’t owe anyone a penny, and hung up. Feels like they’re just targeting older folks like me! Really worried about where they got all this info from.

I picked up and then just ended the call straight away.

Today my 81 year old mum got a call from this number. The person on the phone started by telling her the first four digits of her bank card and asked for the rest, claiming mum owed £149 for some phone call protection service this year and next year would be free. Mum’s never signed up for anything like that and she often gets calls like this, sometimes nearly ten times a week! She's a bit confused sometimes and might have given her card info, but luckily my sister was there and snatched the phone away. The woman on the line insisted mum had signed a four-year contract and owed the money, which is totally untrue. When we asked for the company's details so we could report it, the call just ended abruptly. Frustrating!

Just got a call from this number, something about an A1571 message but the audio was really muffled. I looked it up and it's a scam. I'm 80 years old myself, so if they somehow have your password, change it straight away. You won’t get much help from anyone else. Best advice is to check the number before answering and if you do pick up, hang up quickly. Big respect to those who don’t give out their details - these fraudsters really need to be wiped out. Cheers, Winny

I received a rather unexpected call from this number earlier today. A rather charming chap on the other end stated he was representing a call blocking service and mentioned that my final payment would secure me complimentary subscriptions moving forward. I expressed my gratitude and promptly hung up, leaving him without any commitment from my side in his dubious little operation. Take heed, as there are numerous such entities employing similar tactics.

Today my dad got a call from a woman speaking English, claiming he owed £149 for his phone being blocked. She mentioned he'd supposedly paid this fee around the same time the previous year. She even knew the first four digits of his debit card and asked him to confirm the rest! Thankfully, he refused, saying he never shares bank info over the phone. Oddly though, she recited his password, which he admitted was right. She tried to convince him that if he paid now, next year would be free. I'm relieved my 80-year-old dad wasn't tricked, but he's now really anxious that she somehow knows his password.

Got a call claiming I owed money for some unwanted calls from India or somewhere. The lady spoke English. She asked if my card was the same as before, starting with some digits, but got it wrong. I asked her for the final four digits to check, but she said she couldn't share that for security. I told her if she couldn't give me those then I wasn’t continuing. I never hand out my bank details anyway. Smells like a scam to me. She also said my password was my last name, which it’s never been. Then she just hung up on me.

They purport to provide a call-blocking service, insisting there’s a refund waiting to be put back onto your bank card. They then throw four random digits your way, hoping you’ll divulge the rest. My mother, who unfortunately suffers from dementia, has already been scammed out of £149. We've switched her card, yet they persist in calling, claiming, “We have a refund for you; simply confirm your card details.”
