When I finally spoke, the guy claimed he was an energy consultant from something called the Insulation Advice Line. I asked for a contact number for his firm, but he said he couldn’t give one. He was quite rude, kept interrupting me, and didn’t seem worried at all when I mentioned reporting him for breaching the TPS.

When I picked up an unfamiliar number, there was a long pause with nothing said (I usually keep quiet at first to check if it’s some sort of automated call). The guy then claimed he was calling from the Insulation Advice Line as an energy advisor. I asked him straight out for a company contact number, but he flat out refused. Someone rang up pretending to work for an energy firm. When I asked how they’d managed to get hold of our EX DIRECTORY number, they said it was from some sort of energy survey data. I made it very clear they needed to delete our number from their list or I’d be forced to report them. They were quite polite and thanked me for my time after that. Honestly, the best way to deal with these muppets if you can be bothered is to keep them chatting on the phone - at least it racks up their phone charges!
