I’m not quite sure if the bloke who claimed his name was Matthew was just a nuisance telemarketer or something more dodgy. Regardless, he employed some rather pushy methods and bombarded me with calls incessantly. His pitch was all about loft insulation, which I found quite off-putting.

There’s this bloke called Matthew who rings me a couple of times each week using numbers that look pretty much the same - Bournemouth area code (01202) followed by 137xxx. He’s always keen to chat about loft insulation… which is odd since we haven’t got a loft! I usually mess him about a bit before hanging up when he starts quizzing me on how to spell my name. Yeah right. Naturally, if you ring back, you get some pre-recorded spiel about “… market research … by digital solution marketing company …”. If you’re up for it, have a bit of fun leading Matthew on. Waste his time but don’t give away your first name at all. These scammers are the worst!

I got a call today about some free loft insulation from the government. The guy, who said his name was Matthew, told me that the insulation might be causing damp and condensation in my loft now. He said his firm, Energy Hotline, needed to do something called an "Eco Survey" and offered to send someone round to check it out for free. When I asked Matthew for more info and their company address so I could check it out myself and call back, he just ended the call.

Plus, I use BT Call Guardian, so anyone not saved in my contacts has to say who they are or they can't get through. This caller just hung up instead of saying anything, so you can bet they were up to something dodgy.

I just asked him what the hell he’s even ringing for then and ended the call. Honestly, this guy’s a total nuisance!

The connection was really poor, so I couldn’t catch everything they said. Feeling uneasy, I rang my installer and they reckon it’s probably a scam.

When I tried to ask him some questions, he sounded really mechanical, like he was just reading off a script. So when the follow-up call came through, I got a bit uneasy and told them I wasn’t interested in any survey.

I got a call from a number I didn’t know so I didn’t pick up. I have a message saying I don’t take unknown calls and to leave a message or else I’ll block you. Since they didn’t leave a message, I blocked them. Still, I reckon they'll just ring me from a different number anyway.
