Today I got a call from an 0120 number on my mobile but didn’t pick up. No voicemail left either. When I tried calling back, it hung up straight away. Over the last year my landline has been flooded with scam calls starting 0120, but this is the first time I’ve seen it on my mobile. None of my contacts use 0120, and a quick Google says they’re linked to Clitheroe and often dodgy scammers. I doubt it’s really from Carphone Warehouse or anything legit!

Someone rang me saying they were from O2 wanting to talk about my account. Since I actually have a contract with O2 and they used my proper full name, I thought it might be legit. They asked for my postcode to check my details, so I told them, but then they went on to ask for my birthday too, which made me uneasy. I got a bit wary and decided to look them up online, but I couldn’t find any proof that the number was really from O2. Felt kinda off, so I didn’t give them anything else.

Some bloke with an Indian accent called me saying he was from Carphone Warehouse. He was tryin to sell me a new phone and said they'd cancel the one I have now with my network. He even said my current phone wasn’t right for my personality! I hung about faffin around for about 15 minutes before he gave up. I gave him the address of the police station nearby just for laughs. I've blocked quite a few of these scam numbers already. I usually just ignore calls from numbers I don't know, but I was away from my phone when this particular call came in. I received a call from someone purporting to be from Carphone Warehouse, claiming they had a fantastic offer for me. They were keen to boost their customer base and suggested that they'd buy out my current contract. The terms sounded tempting: just a £50 deposit and £40 monthly payments, significantly lower than what I’m currently shelling out. They promised I’d get a new phone while I’d still own my current device, which, by the way, is a top-of-the-line model worth £1600 and hasn’t been fully paid off yet - a major warning sign right there! When I challenged them on their sketchy claims, the chap ended up hanging up after saying he needed to speak to his supervisor. I could distinctly hear the hustle and bustle of a call centre in the background. Please, whatever you do, don’t share your credit card information with these crooks - they’re clearly out to defraud you!
