Cheers to all who shared info about this number. Ive blocked it now. Honestly, the gov really needs to take action against these endless scam calls! Also, if anyone’s been threatened by one of these callers, make sure to report it to Action Fraud. They might not catch every caller, but if loads of people report the same numbers, there’s a chance they can do something about it and help give us some relief.

07/06/2017 I got a call just like a lot of others have mentioned here. The bloke claimed to be from Microsoft’s Tech Support and gave me the number 01183280178. When I questioned him, he passed me onto a so-called "supervisor". I then challenged this supervisor, who quickly turned rude and started making threats - honestly, it was a pretty bad experience.

I’ve just had a call from this number too: 0118 3280178. The first guy was a bit rude, so he passed me on to his boss, someone called "Brian Watson" (check other comments for refs). I asked about the price and they said £9. When I asked what was wrong with my computer, they wouldn’t explain. They kept interrupting me at least four times, which really annoyed me. Didn’t fall for it - these call centres with Asian accents always pick really English-sounding names! Eventually, I just left them rambling to themselves on the phone till they gave up.

So this guy "Andrew Malson" rang me saying he was from Microsoft tech support, asking if I owned the computer that supposedly was being hacked and sending him loads of error alerts. He claimed he tried to email me but the hackers blocked the message (yeah right). He sounded pretty composed and convincing, even though I told him straight away that I knew it was a scam. Definitely a SCAM, don’t fall for it!

This is like the 7th time I’ve gotten a call from them, usually some Asian fella. They keep ringing even after you tell them to buzz off. Always at odd times in the afternoon. I asked them to say which computer supposedly had a virus, gave them just the initial of one relative’s first name and her last name. When I asked for proof they were legit, all they did was repeat that same info. Definitely sounded fishy to me.

I got a phone call claiming to be from Microsoft, with the usual spiel about my computer being compromised and needing to turn it on. When I called him out, he introduced himself as Paul Watson, with a supposed employee number of NW47746, claiming to be based in RG6 1WG. He even provided the phone number 01183280178 for verification. However, when I mentioned that I only use an iPad, it put an abrupt end to the chat!

Got a call from an Asian guy saying he was Steven from Microsoft and asking me to press the windows key + R. I told him I use a Mac, and suddenly he wanted me to buy a warranty for £11.00 and asked for my email. When I said I don’t have internet, he then wanted me to call back with my bank card info so he could charge me for the warranty. No way was I giving him my details or email. He even asked me to ring him later. Absolutely not. At first, he said he wasn’t selling anything and claimed it was just a warranty, not a purchase. Just a heads up to be careful out there!

Here’s another annoyed person warning you - NEVER share your information or do what they say. It’s all about getting you to cough up £10 for some “lifetime protection” against hackers, and obviously they want your card details. When I called them out on it being a scam, they got really rude. I tried to end the call but then they threatened me with Microsoft blacklisting my name and banning me, even said they’d wipe my whole computer. Total nightmare.

My mum had a similar experience where the bloke introduced himself as Cesar Ernesto. He somehow gained access to her computer, and she ended up having to ring her bank to shut down her accounts. Two people just rang me claiming to be from the Microsoft Support Team. They said there were error messages coming from my PC (which is funny since I don’t even own a Microsoft device!). Just had a rather peculiar encounter with two individuals on the phone who were adamant about being from the Microsoft Technical Support crew. They insisted they were receiving error notifications from my device, which is rather amusing as I don’t own any Microsoft gadgets at all! The first chap introduced himself as Roy Miller, while the second bloke went by William Jonson. Quite likely pseudonyms, I reckon. 17/05/2017. Got a ring from a bloke claiming to be from Microsoft. He kept saying my computer was under attack. I stuck with him on the phone as long as I could (guessing they were getting charged for the call). Then I asked for his name and contact number to call him back. Number was 01183280178, name David Jordan. He kept pushing for me to call right away, which I said I would. Obviously, I didn’t, since I was busy reading a paper. Some bloke with an Indian/Asian accent pretending to be from Microsoft UK rang me, gave me a phone number and their Reading office address as 'proof'. Predictably, he said my computer was infected and tried to get me to go on dodgy sites to download remote control software. Got a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft, sounded like a thick asian accent. When I asked for his name, he gave another one different from what he said at the start. Got a call from someone named Ellis, speaking with a really thick Indian accent, I think. He rattled off my computer’s license number and claimed it’d been hacked, then asked for remote access to fix it. Today my elderly mum got a call from some Indian bloke she couldn't make out, so she asked to talk to his supervisor. A guy named Nick Anderson came on this number. He claimed her laptop had been hacked like 2008 times. He told her to press ctrl and something else, which made a list pop up, then said to right click something on it. She accidentally landed on a porn site, and he used that to convince her hackers were doing that kind of thing.

So after that, he tried pushing some insurance scheme on her, but just then someone came over and she said she was gonna end the call. Then the bloke said he’d block her laptop, and even though she kept saying no, he went ahead and did it. She ended the call but now the laptop says Microsoft’s blocked it. It’s gonna cost her now because she’ll have to pay a tech guy to sort it out. These scammers target everyone, but older folks are the easiest to trick. Wish the scammers had to deal with something like that happening to their own family members.

I received a rather unusual phone call from a gentleman who identified himself as Alex Smith. His English was a bit shaky, and he claimed to be part of a cybersecurity team at Microsoft. He insisted that I needed to access my computer immediately as he required permission to remove certain files he alleged were linked to hacking issues resulting from my downloads. I informed him that I never download anything, but he brushed it off, insisting that my computer was at risk nonetheless. His persistence grew quite alarming, and despite my refusal to turn on my device, he kept trying to convince me. The whole exchange felt increasingly frantic. Yesterday afternoon, I got a call from the 0118 328 0178 number. A woman called Sarah, who spoke with a strong foreign accent (maybe Indian?), said she was ringing from the Microsoft helpdesk in Reading. She claimed they had found a hack on one of their servers linked to my PC and wanted to help clean the infection. She gave a Microsoft ID of me1991, which I checked by calling the number myself and it seemed legit. Same story here, sounded pretty convincing at first. I told him to ring me later once I’d checked with my lad, who reckoned it was probably a scam.
