Victims commonly report difficulty obtaining refunds, with mobile providers sometimes unhelpful or attributing responsibility back to the user. Users are advised to immediately contact their network provider to block premium services, report to the Phone-paid Services Authority (PSA), and avoid replying to texts with “STOP” due to potential additional charges. Persistence with providers and regulators can lead to refunds. The issue affects multiple UK networks and highlights the need for stronger protections against such deceptive billing practices.

I’ve just noticed a deduction of £40.50 from my account linked to this firm for a service I neither requested nor agreed to. Strangely, I hadn’t received any messages as the charges came through a SIM card in my son’s Wi-Fi dongle. I contacted EE, and they basically shrugged it off, saying it wasn't their issue and advised me to reach out to the company directly. Although they mentioned they would halt any further charges, it’s incredibly frustrating that it’s clear phone providers are aware of this dodgy practice!

I got charged £4.50 every week since early December and only just noticed. Vodafone ended up blocking the charges and refunded me £9. Still working on sorting it out to confirm I'm not signed up anymore.

I highly recommend reaching out to your network provider without delay, as they ought to take accountability if they're continuing to impose charges. Like many others here, I've no idea how this company (GoGameHub) acquired my number, nor did I ever request a subscription. I just received a text expressing gratitude for my subscription, advising me to text STOP to 60138. I did a quick search and found others discussing these dubious dealings, and I refrained from responding, fearing it might lead to extra charges. I’m on a monthly plan with Virgin, and I was taken aback when my bill arrived today, showing an unexpected £18 in charges. Virgin Media hasn't been much help; their stance is that I must have signed up, placing the blame on me. However, they’ll be blocking that number from now on. I'm definitely considering switching providers.

These scammers charged me an extra £4.50 on my O2 bill. O2 told me they can’t help with it, so I contacted "secretsalescodes" and told them I never gave permission to charge me. They said they’re sending a £4.50 refund through the Post Office sometime next week. Guess I’ll wait and see if it actually arrives.

As a long-standing customer of Virgin, I must express my disappointment with the recent experience I've had regarding customer service. The assistance provided was not only lacking but also came across as rather curt. To make matters worse, I was informed that the company bears no responsibility and was insinuated that I must have signed up for gaming sites. This accusation is unfounded; I have absolutely no subscriptions to such services, yet my account has been debited multiple times. Despite my efforts to halt these charges by texting STOP All, I found myself facing another unwarranted fee this month. Upon reporting this fraudulent activity to Virgin, I was met with an alarming level of indifference. It’s quite astonishing that a company of Virgin's stature seems so unconcerned about the fraudulent practices affecting its customers through scam texts.

I've just discovered three fraudulent charges on my mobile bill amounting to £15 and I’m absolutely livid! When I reached out to Virgin Mobile, their response was a deflection: "not our fault". How on earth can this be considered acceptable? It feels like outright theft, plain and simple! I haven't signed up for any gaming sites, nor have I authorised anyone to snatch my money away. This is theft! I’m appalled by Virgin’s lack of support for their customers. Shame on you, Virgin!

Greetings everyone! Just to add to the earlier discussion, I received an unexpected message last night around 23:26 from some outfit called GoGameHub. Earlier today, I received another message from txtNation, which stated that my subscription to GoGameHub has been cancelled. So it seems like the number 02076335073 could be relevant. After browsing a bit more online, I found out that mobile providers can actually block premium text services. I reached out to O2 about this, and they assured me that they had implemented it on my account upon my request. Quite a relief, to be honest!

I’ve just had a look at the number 011832 44 333, which appears to be a regular landline. The individual on the line claimed to represent Text Nation and mentioned that they’d blocked payments from my mobile account, though they assured me there wouldn’t be any charges incurred. I was seriously considering halting my payments to my phone provider until I could get to the bottom of this, but I've refrained for now. Fingers crossed I’ve made the right choice and that I can trust the information regarding that number. I shall certainly do a bit more investigation into the matter!

Got a message from "Gogamehub" that started with Receipt then Freemsg. When I opened it, it said I’d somehow agreed to a £4.50 weekly subscription. To cancel, it told me to text STOP to 60138. I did exactly that, then checked with my provider (Virgin) who confirmed it was a scam. They saw my STOP message and promised to block any more premium texts coming through. This scam looks like it’s linked to Reading - if you’re nearby, don’t hesitate to voice your concerns.

Yet another dodgy operation (I fell victim to it last night) that the telecoms seem utterly unwilling to address. It's all too easy to get roped into signing up without even realising it, just being led to some webpage. This particular business has been at it for ages, and despite numerous complaints, nothing seems to be done. It's quite disgraceful that the authorities and mobile providers allow such shenanigans to persist!

I’ve just received a message from MocoPlay, referencing my number and expressing gratitude for my £4.50 weekly subscription. Like others have suggested, it's best to contact your service provider. They can help block further subscriptions and terminate your current one. They’ll likely ask you to send a text with “STOP” to the number in the message. It seems that this number isn't a premium rate line. Furthermore, they'll provide you with a different contact number for a refund since the initial week’s fee has already been taken. This new number is for txtnation, who claim they’re not the culprits behind this scam. Quite perplexing, isn’t it?

I recently received a rather dubious text from a company by the name of GameLand, which I had never come across before. After reaching out to Vodafone, they were kind enough to issue a refund and also placed a block on my line to halt any further messages. To my surprise, they had been taking charges from my account for over a month! I then decided to call the number mentioned in the text, 01189244333, and ended up speaking with someone from txtNation. To my dismay, they seemed quite clueless regarding the situation, and when I probed further, they erroneously claimed to be funded by the government-clearly a tall tale. After expressing my frustration, I received a text stating that I had been unsubscribed, which suggests they were aware of the issue despite their previous denials. Honestly, it’s outrageous, and it seems that these individuals need to be held accountable for their actions!

To Whom It May Concern,
I have just received a rather perplexing text message from your number, which reads as follows:

FreeMsg: You are now subscribed to GameStore at a cost of £2.50 weekly starting 16/02/17 unless you send STOP to 64055. Need assistance? 01183244333

I must emphasise that I have never signed up for anything of the sort. Consequently, I reached out to their email support to demand an immediate cancellation of this so-called "subscription" and request confirmation of the cessation of what I can only describe as a dubious scheme. Their reply stated that my complaint is under consideration, but to receive any outcome, I would need to register (or perhaps subscribe?)... Quite absurd!

I noticed a suspicious £4.50 charge on my latest bill. After reaching out to Three, they promptly disabled all premium numbers for my account. They then put me in touch with a representative from an independent call centre that works in conjunction with them. Both Three and the operative explained that many people end up inadvertently subscribing to these services due to dodgy links on platforms like Facebook, which lead to pages brimming with ads. It's far too easy to accidentally click on one of these ads, and before you know it, you're signed up without realising it. It feels like a form of fraud, enabled by these underhanded tactics. There really needs to be greater action taken against such practices. I strongly encourage everyone to voice their concerns to any ombudsman or regulator available!

Click on the 'Manage account settings' button located towards the bottom of the page. 3. Once you see 'Hello' personalised message, you should spot a variety of options; select 'Manage services'. 4. If you decide to block these texts from third parties it’s probably best to first unsubscribe by replying STOP to the message. Get in touch with Txtnation and ask for your money back if you never signed up. If that fails, you should raise a complaint with your mobile provider. I used a free service called Resolver to complain to Three. It took a few weeks of back and forth and I had to take it up with someone senior, but I finally got my refund. Good luck!
10 years
Just a quick note to add! Should you decide to block those pesky third-party texts with Vodafone, I'd recommend unsubscribing from the service first. Just hit reply with 'STOP' to the message you received. If you weren't the one who signed up for the service, consider reaching out to Txtnation for a refund. Should they be unhelpful, your next step would be to lodge a complaint with your mobile provider. Personally, I used Resolver, a complimentary service, to take on Three. It was a bit of a hassle, involving several weeks of back-and-forth and eventually escalating up the chain. But, after some perseverance, I did manage to reclaim my funds. Wishing you the best of luck!

No idea how I got caught up in this, but you REALLY need to sort this out quick or they’ll start charging you! It said: FreeMsg: Reminder. You’re signed up to wopwappy at £4.50 a week until you text STOP to 64055. Need HELP? 01183244333

Thanks for signing me up to ViralFlickUK at £4.50 a week without my consent! I’m definately reporting this to O2 and the police. This is a total scam!

Why does it always come to £4.50? Is there something special about that figure or what?

I've been bombarded with messages that are racking up charges of £4.50 each time! What steps should I take to sort this out?

Those unscrupulous blighters! Honestly, it's high time action was taken regarding this nonsense.

So 3 rang the firm while I was still on the call and ended up cancelling it for me. I never signed up to anything. Total rip-off. Now I’m waiting to get my money back from who knows who runs the company! Heads up, don’t just brush off the messages - you’ll get charged for sure.

I've been receiving texts as well! It set me back £4.50 just to send a reply to stop them.

EE claims there's not a thing they can do about it, unfortunately.

I keep gettin texts from the same scam. So far, they’ve taken three payments of £4.50 each, saying it’s for Viral Flick Edinburgh, then another £4.50 after I replied STOP, calling it a cancellation charge. My network, EE, has now blocked my account and told me to email [email protected][###] to try and get my money back.

They took £4.50 from me just to send a message to stop!

On New Year’s Day, a random pop-up appeared on my phone but vanished too quickly for me to read it. After that, I started getting texts claiming I'd signed up for 'TheBestFunnyVidz' with a weekly £4.50 fee. They tell you to text STOP to unsubscribe, but apparently that message costs £1, which I think was added to my bill by my network. I’m trying to get my provider to refund me but so far it doesn’t seem very promising.

I can't tell you how frustrating it's been dealing with these folks! Their relentless subscription texts have turned my life into an absolute nightmare. Every time I reach out for help, they promise to sort it and remove me from their list, only for me to find yet another message waiting for me the very next day. I’ve even pleaded with three different companies to halt any charges from my phone bill, but they keep insisting it’s beyond their control. In a desperate bid for peace, I actually ditched a fantastic phone plan, all to escape this incessant bother.

I received a rather bothersome text from this number, informing me that I had somehow signed up for a weekly subscription to a site (UK.69channel.com) at a cost of £4.50 each week. To be clear, I haven't enrolled in any such service nor expressed any interest at all. It’s evident that these lot are up to no good and ought to be dealt with swiftly.

I would really appreciate it if someone could put an end to calls from this number. It's quite baffling how such things are allowed to happen in the first place.

They’re billing folks without any good reason at all.

Do you think I should reply with stop or leave it alone? I'm worried they'll start billing me if I respond.

I recently noticed that scammers are sending texts after someone visits a particular website. They claim it costs £4.50 a week. Quite dodgy if you ask me!

Quite straightforward, really: dial 01752 273491 and select the second option (which is the business partners line). This is where you can really get your money's worth by contacting the TxtNation call centre (the firm handling these payments). After persistently ringing them up around 45 times over the span of two days, I ultimately secured a refund. Initially, they claim they're forwarding your information, but if you press them, they will issue a refund. Just remember, don’t provide them with any personal details about yourself - they only have your phone number from which they deducted your funds. Feel free to use fictitious names and email addresses. Good luck!

01183244333 keeps sending me messages about a MostExtremeTV subscription I never signed up for!! Its a scam from 85450 by some company called mgage. I reckon you should file a complaint with Which and try to track down whoever is behind this. Also, best to email them to stop these annoying texts.

Got a text about a subscription to extremeTV, which I’ve never heard about or signed up for. The message came through early, like 5am GMT. I replied with STOP to the short number they used, then blocked that 5-digit number along with the 0118 one that was linked to it.

I just can’t understand how this isn't against the law! I was browsing through some adult content when an ad popped up, as they usually do, and before I knew it, I received a message from these absolute muppets claiming I had signed up for something. What a load of rubbish!

How is this even allowed? I was watching some adult stuff and a popup ad opened up another window like it always does, then outta nowhere I get a text from these lot saying I've signed up for some service. Proper frustrating!

They’ve signed me up for a weekly charge of £4.50, leaving me to scramble for an escape by texting ‘STOP’ if I choose to opt out. I’ve held off on that response, fearing a larger bill might follow. I’ve also sent a request three times to halt any more payments right away. It’s baffling how these companies operate with such audacity, and more crucially, how they manage to evade accountability.

I’ve just received a text expressing gratitude for signing up to some service called funny vidz, which I’ve never come across before. They’ve already taken £4.50 from my account without my knowledge! I plan to contact Three about this; it feels like I’ve been robbed!

Like many others, I got the message confirming my subscription, which was quite baffling! I called EE straight away, and they assured me it was nothing to worry about as my account wasn’t billed. I insisted they prevent any third-party charges on my number, and they gave me their word they would. To my utter disbelief, just a few hours later, a £4.50 deduction showed up on my bill! EE informed me that I would have to sort out the refund with the service provider directly. So now, I’m left fuming, waiting to tackle this after the long bank holiday. What a nuisance!

I got a rather dodgy 'free message' informing me that I'd signed up for Mostextremetv at a cost of £4.50 each week. Without wasting any time, I shot back a text saying 'stop' to 64055. I'm keen to see if that does the trick, and whether EE can actually sort it out on their side. Fingers crossed!

It's quite baffling, isn't it? How on earth can they manage to extract funds from individuals without having any sort of connection or prior agreement in place? It seems downright dodgy and, frankly, raises a few eyebrows about its legality. One would think there's got to be some sort of law against that sort of thing!

Received a couple of odd messages today: “FreeMsg: Cheers for signing up to ThebestfunnyVidz for £4.50 weekly via Bamvas. To cancel, simply text STOP to 64055. Need help? Call 01183244333.” And another one saying: “FreeMsg: Thanks for joining wopwappy at £4.50 a week from WopWappy. To opt-out, text STOP to 64055. Got questions? Ring 01183244333.” What on earth is going on here? How is this even allowed? It feels like nothing short of daylight robbery!
