Was at work and freaked out a bit, so I ended up calling the number. Can it actually cause any trouble? Feeling pretty dumb for getting caught up in it!

My computer popped up with a warning that I had some sort of virus and my personal info was sent to hackers, and it told me to ring a number straight away. I wasn’t sure if it was legit, so I typed the number into a search engine on my phone and luckily found this comment. I panicked a bit and ended up dialling it from my landline, which looking back was daft. Followed the advice here to get rid of the message, so cheers for that. Now I’m bracing myself for more annoying calls, which is the last thing I need while I’m trying to get better from cancer and managing things alone with my kid.

Got a message saying my hard drive would be deleted. I put the number into my tablet's browser and found this site advising not to ring back and to shut down your browser. That saved me, cheers!

Got that usual scam warning telling me my hard disk was about to get wiped in like 4 minutes. Total nonsense, of course. Just hit ctrl+shift+escape to open Task Manager and shut down the browser, and it went away. Easy fix!

I got this massive popup that took over my entire screen on Windows, claiming my hard drive was at risk and would get erased in around four minutes. It told me to call Windows support on a “free” number and warned me not to close the window. Total scam, but it really freaked my wife out while she was just checking her emails.

My screen suddenly showed that number and when I picked up a guy, sounding pretty chill, said he was calling from an office in Delhi. He then started asking if he could get into my computer...

Fraud alert! Got a popup saying “Stop this site from opening more windows.” Super dodgy, looks like a scam to me. Watch out when you see that sort of thing popping up, it’s a classic trick to bait you into clicking more. Stay safe everyone!
