The caller, purporting to represent an industry association, claimed they were reaching out to assist with an alleged overbilling issue regarding my business energy provider. Strangely, they seemed to possess a wealth of information about my company, including the name and address, and claimed to be affiliated with an entity called Business Energy Direct, which, while legitimate, didn't seem to be acting in this manner. They suggested that Ofgem had tasked them with resolving issues related to commercial energy suppliers due to increased demand-something I couldn’t find any reference to on their rather average-looking website. Their request was particularly alarming; they asked me to send over photographs of my energy bills via WhatsApp to ‘validate and rectify’ the supposed errors and obtain a refund.
