Got a call on my landline on the 7th of December around 3:25pm. I never pick up if I don’t recognise the number, and they didn’t leave any voicemail either.

At first, I thought it was a recorded message, but then a real person started talking about possible condensation issues in regular loft insulation. The bit about me being one of the last in my neighbourhood to get called didn’t seem quite right either. I usually avoid picking up unknown numbers, but answered since it showed as a Reading number. No harm done in hanging up politely though - if it’s genuine, I can always look them up and give them a ring later.

Just after 8 in the morning, this number called our landline. The voice on the other end, which sounded like it was either recorded or generated by AI, said it was "Luke, a local energy advisor". It wasn’t the first time either - the exact same thing happened yesterday. It seemed like it could respond automatically, like some kind of AI system. I stayed quiet and it asked me a bunch of questions before the call suddenly ended on their side.
